Section D Achievements and performance
Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year
2022 was a better year for the Charity whilst still recovering from the Covid-19 pandemic. Whilst we have continued to support our network of families both in person and via online communication, we were also able to deliver our second fully funded Retreat which brought together 13 families from across the whole of the UK. The day provided an opportunity for the children to socialise and for some of them to build on the friendships they made at our inaugural Retreat. It also gave the parents a chance to speak, share advice ad learnings that they had experienced which was invaluable for those families with younger children. We also held more formal workshops in groups throughout the day to encourage conversations.
During 2022 we also made a significant donation to a child’s fund who’s family have been fundraising to enable them to have pioneering surgery in the US with a long-term view of their child being able to have their tracheostomy removed which would improve the quality of the whole families lives. The family had been fundraising for 5 years and believed they had reached the total needed to be able to fund the surgery but when the Hospital provided them with a final quote, due to the change in foreign exchange rate they found themselves with a shortfall of money. Fortunately, due to our long-term planning we were in a position to donate the full amount needed to ensure the child was able to begin their surgical process.
