## **Overview:**

OTB is a fresh and innovative approach to enabling the development of children, youth and community oriented spaces and Children’s Centres in urban and challenging environments in Ethiopia. The charity was registered in November 2016 and has established formal partnerships with Ethiopia’s leading architecture university (EiABC) and an Ethiopian bamboo construction company.

In April 2016 phase 1 of the Balderas Condominium Project in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia was completed. This is comprised of a children’s adventure playground, art installations and a community garden. This was procured via private fundraising and engaged parents, carers and children in an intensive design and implementation process lasting over a year. A second project, a playground for the children of homeless women engaged in precarious occupations to secure an income (begging or prostitution) was completed in April 2017 in partnership with the Fields of Hope Charity at the Yesesfa Mesk Day Care Centre.

The OTB programme is embodied in the 4 pillars:

- **Community/partnership engagement –** including design and delivery of projects and ensuring their long-term sustainability (MOUs, play training, appointment of staff where appropriate)

- **Build/construction –** high quality capital development of facilities (use of local eco-friendly and innovative materials)

- **Research and knowledge transfer/sharing -** developing networks (impact assessment and evaluation built into all projects)
