Reg. No. 1170005
TRUSTEES’ REPORT FOR THE PERIOD ENDED 1 AUGUST 2023
The trustees present their report and accounts for the year ended 1 August 2023. The accounts have been prepared in accordance with the accounting policies set out in the notes to the financial statements and comply with the charity's Trust Deed, the Charities Act 1993 and the Statement of Recommended Practice, "Accounting and Reporting by Charities", issued in March 2005.
(Note: The William Cross Foundation was formed in September 2016 and achieved registered status with the Charities Commission on 3 November 2016.)
STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT
The charity is constituted as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation under a Foundation Constitution.
OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
The identified Charitable Objects are:
To:
-
(1) advance the education of the public, in particular but not exclusively, in the subjects of music and politics, in particular but not exclusively, for young people under the age of 25 throughout England and Wales, and
-
(2) to promote any other purpose which is charitable according to English law in such ways as the charity trustees think fit.
-
The William Cross Foundation relies entirely on volunteers and neither employs staff nor owns any property.
-
Trustees' Board Meetings were initially held on a monthly basis during the initial few months but now take place on a quarterly basis.
Background
The William Cross Foundation was formed in September 2016 following the tragic death of William Cross on 28 May 2016. William, the 17 year old son of Paul Cross and his wife Lesa, was afflicted by acute viral encephalitis, a condition that results in death in only 1:500000 people.
William Cross Foundation – Trustees’ Annual Report 2022-23
WILLIAM CROSS FOUNDATION
Reg. No. 1170005
William’s involvement in many musical activities and his popularity in his home town meant that his death had a devastating impact on not just his family and friends, but on a whole community. He was a House Prefect at Kingswood School, had formed his first band aged just 10, played in pubs, clubs and at events, and was an active member of the young Conservatives. Following an outpouring of public grief, and an immediate desire to do something in remembrance, Will’s family and friends started to organise collections and other fundraising ideas. Whilst the enthusiasm was tangible, there was a real and immediate need to exert some control and structure to the fundraising in order to protect Will’s family and to ensure that there was a sound structure as Will’s legacy developed.
ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE
Fundraising
The development of the Foundation’s social media (Facebook and Twitter) enabled us to promote the brand and raise awareness of the charity in a way which would have never been possible previously.
www.facebook.com/williamcrossfoundation twitter.com/willsfoundation
A website has been created which in the future will provide the mechanism for eligible young people to apply for funding from our Grants Programme via an on-line applications process.
Beneficiaries
The Foundation has contributed £1500.00 towards studio recording and rehearsals for MAS Records artists at Stage 2 Studios in Bath.
DECLARATIONS
The trustees declare that they have approved the trustees’ report above.
