## **SAFARI SIMBAZ CHARITY TRUSTEES REPORT – Year ending 31[st] December, 2023** 

2023 proved to be another exciting year for the Safari Simbaz charity. Key highlights include: 

1. In February, Nick Bourne (Trustee) attempted to beat the world solo unsupported cycling record from Cairo to Cape Town. After phenomenal distances being covered by Nick in the first few days (well on target to beat the record), conditions became so dangerous in Sudan that the attempt had to be abandoned (initial fundraising retained). 

2. Chris Froome (originally trained to ride by David Kinjah and always maintained a keen interest in the Safari Simbaz) joined our Trustees Meeting in June and was confirmed as ‘Ambassador’ to the Safari Simbaz Charity. 

3. During August we made the final payment for the 5 acres of land purchased near Mount Kenya where we intend to establish the new and much needed base for assisting the under-privileged youth in Kenya. Registration of the land in the name of Safari Simbaz Trust (Kenya) was in progress at the end of 2023. 

Significant further fundraising is now required to build the ‘Academy’ on the land which will provide both accommodation & educational facilities for the youth supported by Safari Simbaz plus additional features enabling the centre to gradually become self-supporting though offering cycling related services/tours to visitors. 

The trustees look forward to ongoing fundraising and activities gaining further momentum to enable progress with the proposed ‘Academy’.
