How the Charity is Charitable Incorporated Organisation Constituted:
Trustee Selection Method: Appointed by existing Trustees
Objectives & Activities
The object of Say Aphasia is the relief of persons with aphasia and associated acquired communication difficulties after a stroke, head injury or brain tumour and their families and carers by the provision of such charitable support as the trustees think fit, including the provision of therapy, support and information.
Say Aphasia’s Mission: Identify the best locations across the UK for aphasia support groups. Focus on areas with potential peer leaders, active Speech and Language Therapy teams, or partnerships with Headway, Stroke Association, or other relevant aphasia groups. These partnerships will help us build strong links and gain referrals.
Each group will follow Say Aphasia's clear, consistent protocols, managed locally and supported centrally. Peer leaders with aphasia will run the groups, supported by a structured team, ensuring the charity becomes an important part of local care for people with aphasia.
Group Purpose:
-
To bring people with aphasia or other acquired communication disability together.
-
To help people with aphasia to feel less isolated within their community, and feel more confident living with aphasia.
-
To provide a safe place where aphasia is understood.
-
To provide a supportive place for people with aphasia to have conversations and socialise.
-
Say Aphasia helps people with aphasia adapt to their new way of life and regain their independence and confidence.
All our groups are run by people with aphasia plus support volunteers and we have developed an aphasia friendly online induction training for all volunteers.
Say Aphasia also has associations with Speech and Language Therapists, with the Stroke Association and with Aphasia Alliance.
Achievements & Performance
Say Aphasia celebrated their 8th anniversary during this year.
Say Aphasia has added 3 new drop-in groups set up this year to support people with aphasia and their families to live well with aphasia. Our trustees have introduced a full range of aphasia friendly policies and systems to improve our governance and accountability. Our aphasia friendly induction for our volunteers has improved our quality of service across England and Wales.
Awareness events including TV interviews, MP visits, involvement in Aphasia Research, stands at festivals and conferences have all helped to raise the public profile of this little known communication difficulty.
The trustees declare that they have complied with their duty to have due regard to the guidance on public benefit published by the commission in exercising their powers or duties.

-
We confirm that significant assumptions used by us in making accounting estimates, including those measured at fair value, are reasonable.
-
We confirm that all known actual or possible litigation and claims whose effects should be considered when preparing the financial statements have been disclosed to you and accounted for and disclosed in accordance with the applicable financial reporting framework.
-

In reaching this conclusion, we have taken into account all relevant matters of which we are aware and have considered a period of at least one year from the date on which the financial statements will be approved.
-
We confirm that all grants, donations and other income, including those subject to special terms or conditions or received for restricted purposes, have been notified to you. There have been no breaches of terms or conditions during the period regarding the application of such income.
Yours faithfully,
