Achievements & Performance

During the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic Say Aphasia have continued to carry on with drop in groups online via Zoom. As restrictions have gradually eased the drop in groups have started to recommence.

Say Aphasia celebrated their 5[th] birthday during this year.

Say Aphasia have again successfully secured several grants throughout the year. These funds have been used to provide free online speech and language therapy sessions for people in the UK, who were discharged from hospital with aphasia and would have otherwise been on a long wait list to see a speech and language therapist, during the difficult times of the COVID-19 pandemic. Funds have also been secured for the introduction of a digital inclusion project. The aim of this project is to pilot a service extension to make our online services accessible to members who do not use zoom.

The trustees declare that they have complied with their duty to have due regard to the guidance on public benefit published by the commission in exercising their powers or duties.

Independent examiner’s report to the Trustees of Say Aphasia (Charitable Incorporated Organisationnumber 1169933)

I report on the accounts of Say Aphasia for the year ended 28 September 2021, which are set out on pages 1 to 2 of the Receipts and Payments accounts.

Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner

The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 act) and that an independent examination is needed.

It is my responsibility to:

Basis of independent examiner’s report

My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and the seeking of explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and, consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair view’ and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

Independent examiner’s statement

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:

  1. which gives me reasonable cause to believe that, in any material respect, the requirement:

  2. To keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the 2011 Act; and

  3. To prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and to comply with the accounting requirements of the 2011 Act

have not been meet; or

  1. to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
