## Section D Achievements and performance
**Summary of the main** The ministry of the Mathetes Trust falls into 3 parts: we support **achievements of the charity** discipleship in Africa through our Rooted in Jesus programme; we **during the year** provide support and mentoring for church leaders within the UK; we publish resource materials on key topics of Christian life and ministry. **1. Rooted in Jesus – a practical discipleship programme for Africa** The last couple of years have been dominated by the restrictions imposed by the Covid19 pandemic. Whilst the social and economic consequences of the long months of lockdown will remain with us for some time, 2022 brought welcome relief, and the lifting of travel restrictions meant that we were able once again to offer active support and training to those using Rooted in Jesus. The result was that a record number of training events for Rooted in Jesus were held during the year, with 23 conferences taking place in 8 countries. 13 involved teams from the UK, 7 from South Africa and 3 from Tanzania. We also continued to provide advice and encouragement to Anglican dioceses and other network leaders already using Rooted in Jesus. A full report is available on our website. **2. EQUIP – a support programme for church leaders in the UK** The purpose of the Mathetes Trust’s EQUIP programme is to provide mentoring assistance to Christians who are themselves committed to serving the Great Commission in the UK – disciples who want to make disciples. EQUIP now serves 75 people who meet regularly in 10 groups: 9 in England and 1 in North Wales. Seven of the 10 EQUIP groups consist entirely of clergy; one is restricted to those who serve in an Anglican multi-parish benefice, where one minister has responsibility for several churches. Leaders of multi parish benefices are often under pressure to lead each of their churches in quite traditional ways which, even with outstanding leadership, usually results in ageing and declining congregations; it is

**Summary of the main** our aim to help these leaders find a new approach which reverses these **achievements of the charity** trends. The other 3 EQUIP groups are for lay people. One group is for full **during the year** or part-time children’s workers. The other two groups are for lay people who are committed to spreading the Gospel in the places where they live and work. As part of the ministry of EQUIP we provide training and teams to enable and support parish missions. This year we ran a mission in Slough. **3. Publications**
During the year we continued to commission new translations of the Rooted in Jesus leaders’ guides. Translations were made into local Arabic, Dinka and Nuer for South Sudan, Alur for DR Congo, Northern Sotho for South Africa, Malagasy for Madagascar and Kumam for Uganda. The Masai (Tanzania) and Kirundi (Burundi) editions were revised and updated, and we produced a new edition of the Rooted in Jesus Team Manual. Rooted in Jesus is now available in whole or in part in 49 languages, and Rooted in Jesus Junior in 11 languages.
We also continued to create booklets for members of our EQUIP groups. These form the basis for the group meetings, and cover key issues of Christian life and ministry. Our existing books and ministry resources have continued to be made available during the year.
