The charity is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) registered on 21 October 2016 and is governed by a constitution adopted on the same date

The trustees of the charity are appointed by the members at the AGM.
## **Objectives and activities**
## **The charity's objects**
To provide or assist in the provision of facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation or other leisure time occupation of the game of cricket of individuals who have need of such facilities by reason of their youth, age infirmity or disability, financial hardship or social circumstances with the object of improving their conditions of life.
## **The charity's main activities**
The charity exists to provide an inclusive opportunity for disadvantaged people to participate in the game of cricket to make a positive difference to the community and the participants’ health and wellbeing.

## **Public benefit statement**
In setting our objectives and planning our activities our trustees have given serious consideration to the Charity Commission’s general guidance on public benefit and in particular the advancement of education, relief of poverty and the advancement of amateur sport.
## **Achievements and performance**
Despite Covid-19 restrictions we have continued to deliver charitable activities, albeit at an attenuated level. We have delivered cricket taster sessions to primary school children, these have given children the opportunity to try cricket and create opportunities for them to continue the sport at local clubs.
We have delivered cricket based activities to community groups catering for vulnerable young people. Children who are young carers, suffer from mental health issues or come from disadvantaged backgrounds have received cricket themed sessions and talks on improving their self-esteem.
We have provided scholarships to several under privileged young people who are keen to develop their game. One beneficiary has progressed into county age group cricket, gained player of the year award for Lancashire u14s and has now secured a place on the emerging player pathway. These opportunities would not have been possible without foundation support.
We have continued a project aimed at increasing cricket opportunities to disadvantaged and high asian areas within Central Halifax.
Plans are in place to develop this into year round opportunities for young people from this area. We were unable to complete our annual Netathon in February due to Covid and this has had a significant impact on the charity as it leaves us with very limited unrestricted funds for general use.
## **Financial review**
The net receipts for the year were £23,969, including net payments of £77 on unrestricted funds and net receipts of £24,046 on restricted funds.
## **Reserves policy**
The charity's free reserves at the year end were £712.
As the foundation has very limited committed costs and operates from premises donated by The Cricket Asylum, it is unlikely that we will face any emergency that requires use of funds, however it is proposed that we hold a nominal amount of £200 for contingency purposes. In addition we propose to set aside a further £300 to cover a 3 month wind-up process if required. We consider £500 to be the minimum level of reserves. The excess reserves will be spent in the following financial year. This policy will be reviewed on an annual basis.
## **Coronavirus impact statement**
As a result of Covid our major source of unrestricted funds could not be undertaken and this has caused a tightening of spending although we still have significant funds made available to manage summer camps over the 2021 holiday period.
We have reviewed the impact on the foundation and consider it does not pose a significant financial threat as we are simply experiencing delays to delivery of charitable activity because we cannot access facilities necessary for the support of asylum seekers/refugees and more general community support - in both cases school premises.
The trustees have therefore reassessed the charity’s ability to continue for at least 12 months from the date that the accounts are approved and conclude that there are no material uncertainties that cast significant doubt on the charity's ability to meet its liabilities as they fall due.

## Independent examiner's report to the trustees of The Cricket Asylum Foundation Charitable Incorporated Organisation ('the CIO')
I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of the CIO for the year ended 28 February 2021, which are set out on pages 5 to 8.
## **Responsibilities and basis of report**
As the charity trustees of the CIO you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 ('the Act').
I report in respect of my examination of the CIO's accounts as carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act. In carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
## **Independent examiner's statement**
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:
1 accounting records were not kept in respect of the CIO as required by section 130 of the Act; or 2 the accounts do not accord with those records.
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

## **1 Accounting policies**
## **Basis of accounting**
The trustees have taken advantage of section 133 of the Charities Act 2011 and have prepared the accounts on a receipts and payments basis.
There has been no change to the accounting policies since last year.
No changes have been made to the accounts for previous years.
## **Taxation**
As a charity the organisation benefits from rates relief and is generally exempt from income tax and capital gains tax but not from VAT. Irrecoverable VAT is included in the cost of those items to which it relates.
## **Fund accounting**
Unrestricted funds are available for use at the discretion of the trustees in furtherance of the general objectives of the charity.
Restricted funds are subjected to restrictions on their expenditure imposed by the donor or through the terms of an appeal.
Further explanation of the nature and purpose of each fund is included in the notes to the accounts.
