The new Committee is as follows: Chair – Vacant Bob Massey - Secretary David Anderson – Treasurer Jeremy Lodge Sarah Seaton Chris Weir Judith Mills James Wright Adrian Gray David Barton David Anderson Treasurer/Membership Secretary March 30[th] 2021 ## **NOTTINGHAMSHIRE LOCAL HISTORY ASSOCIATION** ## **ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 2022** ## **TRUSTEES REPORT ON ACTIVITIES DURING 2021** ## **DAY SCHOOL AND ON-LINE EVENTS** The pandemic continued to affect our events so that both Spring and Autumn Day schools were cancelled as it was considered unwise to hold large, in-person meetings. However, three on-line talks were held which attracted large audiences: 16 February Sharon Bennett Connolly, _Ladies of the Magna Carter_ (audience 464) 22 March Marc Allum _, The Anatomy of Collecting_ (audience 184) 28 April Helen Bates, _Conserving the Leaves of Southwell_ (audience 178) In response to comments made in the 2021 Survey of NLHA activities, it has been decided to rename the twice-yearly meetings from Day School to Nottinghamshire History Forum, which better reflects the event. This does not preclude future Day Schools, which would take on a different format. _James Wright, Day School/Events Co-ordinator_ ## **NOTTINGHAMSHIRE HISTORIAN** As mentioned last year, the magazine has changed size to A5 which we hope makes it much easier to fit onto people's bookshelves. We are hoping to make the next one about 48-52 pages long. Sufficient contributions for the next issue of the Historian have been received but the Editor would appreciate more articles. Jeremy Lodge continues to support the editor in this role but if there is anyone out there that would like to become a regular contributor/reporter etc, the editor would love to hear from them. The format of the magazine remains roughly the same, Editorial, A Spotlight on... articles, Time Hop, website reviews and book reviews. However, we are happy to hear suggestions and receive articles about exciting history based news from your town or village. We want the Historian to continue to be a publication that you are happy to read, but we can't produce it without your welcome contributions. Please email the editor at editor@nlha.org.uk. _Sarah Seaton, Editor_ ## **NEWSLETTER** Until September 2021, the collation and distribution of the newsletter was coordinator by John Parker and then by David Anderson as an interim until a new coordinator has been appointed. There are about 500 recipients of the newsletter, which is sent out by email, though this varies slight month-on-month. Of these 500, approximately 125 are members and 375 non-members and many of the recipients are history and heritage groups which forward the newsletter to their own membership; its reach is therefore extensive and influential as it advertises and promotes the activities of local history groups and local history speakers and demonstrates the vitality of local history in Nottinghamshire. Sadly, due to the pandemic the number advertised events was greatly reduced in 2021 as groups postponed meetings and events. _John Parker and David Anderson, Newsletter Editors_ 1 ## **FACEBOOK** There are currently two NLHA Facebook pages. https://www.facebook.com/groups/369217380535614 is a Facebook members group, it currently has 923 members.It was set up by John Parker and Adrian Gray as administrators (now administered by Adrian Gray only). There is a steady level of postings at about 50 over each 28 day period, with each posting being seen by about 300 people. https://www.facebook.com/NottsLocalHistory is an ‘open’ Facebook page set up in 2012 with Adrian Gray and John Parker as administrators (now Adrian Gray solely) and Sarah Seaton has editor authority. At the moment 3213 people ‘like’ the page and 3393 people ‘follow’ the page. The most significant contributor is Adrian Gray whose recent post ‘Cut Throat Lane’ was seen by 16237 people. This is felt to be more appropriate for an entity such as ours which lives or dies financially on cash - not profit (an accounting concept that is more relevant to a company). Consequently, the following adjustments have been made to the 2021 accounts to “convert” them to the new basis: - A depreciation expense of £365.48 to reduce the outstanding depreciation to zero. - Transfer £555.00 from the 2020 “Advance subscriptions” item to the 2021 Income/Expenditure statement. - Transfer £75.00 from 2020 “Pre-Payments” item to the 2021 Income/Expenditure statement. In future the only asset items shown on the Balance Sheet will be those relating to Cash. It is a requirement that at each AGM one third of the Trustees shall stand down and can offer themselves for re-election and it is usual that those who have been longest in office retire, though can be re-elected. For the year 2022 the following Trustees will retire and have confirmed that they are willing to be nominated for re-election: Bob Massey: Nominated by Chris Weir, Seconded by David Anderson Judith Mills: Nominated by Chris Weir, Seconded by David Anderson Sarah Seaton: Nominated by Chris Weir, Seconded by David Anderson The following trustees remain in office: David Anderson, David Barton, Adrian Gray, Jeremy Lodge, Chris Weir. There are three Officers (Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer) who stand down each year and can offer themselves for re-election. Owing to changes in the Committee in 2021, two of those officers were ‘Acting’ having taken on the role after the AGM, with agreement of the other Trustees. They have all confirmed that they are willing to be nominated for reelection: They are Chairman; Bob Massey: Nominated by Chris Weir, Seconded by Adrian Gray Secretary: David Barton: Nominated by Chris Weir, Seconded by Adrian Gray Treasurer: David Anderson: Nominated by Chris Weir, Seconded by Adrian Gray **Vacancies:** The Constitution allows for up to 10 Trustees, which means there are vacancies for two additional Trustees who must be members of NLHA and be nominated by another member. Becoming a Trustee offers real opportunities to not only influence the work of NLHA but also to connect to the wider local history community. Anyone wishing to be a Trustee should send their nomination to the Secretary at secretary@nlha.org.uk by Saturday March 19th.
