The trustee’s Annual report and accounts 2021/22 The Argonauts

Aims and purpose

To run wheelchair sports for people of all abilities, currently focusing on Wheelchair Rugby League at weekly sessions in a Dartford venue. To have enough members to enter leagues competitively.

Objectives

The objectives of the CIO are:- to improve of the condition of life of disabled people by the provision and encouragement in the interests of social welfare of wheelchair sports with the provision of suitable facilities.

Activities

Ran 12 Wheelchair Rugby League training sessions (Jan – Mar). Had planned to run 50 sessions throughout the year but were unable to acquire our venue due to the Covid pandemic.

Achievements and performances

Change in all trustees and management during this year has made transition difficult. There have been challenges with access to the bank account so some of the financials specifically Reference: Mobile-Channel are costs we are unaware of.

The Covid pandemic prevented us from training for the majority of this year. Once we were able to return to training, the sessions were run at The Fairfield leisure centre, Lowfield street, Dartford DA1 1JB every Monday between 6.30pm and 8.30pm. The cost of hiring the venue had been raised from £0 to £30 per hour. Jeremy kite of Dartford Council arranged for The Argonauts to receive a grant to pay for the hall hire for the year.

The number of members reduced from pre-pandemic numbers due to some players taking part in new hobbies and some players joining new teams. Fortunately, we had enough players to enter a team into the south league. We also have two members in the Ireland national squad and one member in the Wales national squad.

Overall, it’s been a tough year due to the pandemic, but we are hopeful that next year will be better due to an increase in training sessions and hopefully increasing our number of players by increased publicity with visits from the Mayor of Dartford and local papers.
