greatest deprivatK•n to work with children on a one•t￿one basis providing addf(ional readlng support outside of the
cla$$room. Our reading support airns to hfylp children do8e Ihè gap befyveen their readin9 age and chronological age 80
Ihey can fully access the rest of the national curriculum.
We support ¢hlldren from Yèar 1 to Year 6 who 8re S￿￿ted to particip8ts by t￿1r class teachers bgcaus9 Ihoy aro at
risk of falling bohind in aducation or will ber7efil in temis of reading confid8nc8 by laking part. Most have identified gaps
beh¥een their ￿¥dir￿J aga and chroThJbJical 8gè.
Ready Steady Rgad rgcnjits and trains voluntger readeTS vtho one to one readlng 8UPPOrt to children to improve
literocy leveL8. confidencè and encour￿8 them to re8d for pleasure. We oparate 3 reading schemes pgr school year to
coincKle wlh the academic terms and we have devok)p8d a reward schem¥ to encourage the children to read both in
school and 81 home. Each volunteer support$ 7 or 8 children each term.
We also4J￿￿￿ r*adlng schemes and challgnges not requiring one to one volunteer 8UPFK)rt Bnd we provide literacy
support in the form of reading comers in schools. sponsorshlp of londing libraries and L*)nalions of books to schojl
libr8ri9s and ckssroorns, these books lo bg road both al home and in school.

As we moved into this financial year, we conunued to incorporate our addltsonal readlng 8ch8m88 and initiatives Into the
supwrt we offer schools. However, ensurfng children have somgon¢ lo read lo every wgek In a onethto.one setting
is whgro w¢ can have the greatest imp8ct as a charity. The childion dwelop relationshlps wlh thelr reader which in tum
lèads to confidence and enthusiasm and helps develop a love of rè8ding. At the stsrt of the $urnm8r term in 2023 we
had 20 volunteers in 10 8chools and by the end of the spring temi 2024 we had 27 volunteer$ in 12 schools. During this
yèar our volunteers have providèd one to one reading support to over 600 chikJr8WI.
One of our bigg8$t successe5 this year was our Christmas book Donation schème. With the supwt of 25 Socal
businèsses, 8n out.of-town author, our local Fire and Rescue HQ Bnd our volunteers, through a combinab'on of bTr)k
and monètary donat¢ons, we were able to provide a Christmas book gift to every child In the 17 schools we support.
5200 books were wrapped up and donaled to these sch¢)ols to dlstribute to all their pupils.

solicitors, nurs8$, univer8Ry student8, part time and stsy 8t home mums, and a team from a tocal Fire and Rescue
