Duties are of 2.5 hours and are concentrated at weekends, other than during the 3 weeks of School Christmas/New Year holidays when wardening is daily between the hours of 10am and 4pm. Seal births November 2022 to early January 2023 reached 3,796, the highest number yet recorded on the coast of NE Norfolk, and the breeding site continued to extend towards Sea Palling to the north and beyond Winterton in the south. You **may choose** to include further statements, where relevant, about: - policy on grantmaking; - policy programme related investment; - contribution made by volunteers. As in the previous year, wardening continued throughout February and into early May while thousands of grey seals went through their annual moult, attracting large numbers of visitors. Volunteers were asked to walk the beaches to inform visitors about the moult and advise them to give the animals distance to prevent disturbance. While everyone registered with FoHS is a volunteer, seal wardens are the backbone of the charity, which would not operate without them. The trustees are hugely grateful for the work done by volunteers and appreciate their dedication to aiding protection of the seals and dune environments, and greeting, guiding and informing members of the public about them. We are as always ever grateful to and appreciative of our hard working team of volunteer wardens who give of their time freely in all weathers to protect the growing seal colony and environment from disturbance and damage whilst making visits by the ever-increasing numbers of visitors both informative and enjoyable. ## Section D Achievements and performance March **2012** **TAR** 4 ## Section D Achievements and performance |**Summary of the main**

Attendance of FoHS mobile information unit at various local
events and fetes during the summer month’s 2022 raising
awareness of the work of the charity and potential for recruitment
of volunteers.

Successful recruitment and training in 2022 brought in 86 new
wardens, replacing volunteers who had retired or gone on to do
other things, and maintaining the strength of the wardening team.

Two wardens were trained to strengthen FoHS Rescue Team and
assist with increased callouts to sick and injured seals.

FoHS’ successful partnership with RSPCA East Winch Wildlife
Hospital continued throughout the year.

Instigated by loss of use of an angler’s hut in 2021, a new wooden
shed was purchased, installed and fitted beside the Beach Car
Park to act as FoHS hub and provide storage at Winterton.

New wooden storage shed at Horsey Gap was purchased to
replace metal lock-up box, and installed adjacent to Horsey Gap
Car Park.

Very busy pupping & breeding season at Horsey and Winterton
successfully wardened over 10-12 week period.

Weekly pup count carried out successfully with results sent to
scientific centres for research purposes. Highest pup numbers
ever recorded approaching 3,800.

FoHS continued its support of ‘Keep Seals Safe from throwing
rings’ campaign, which in summer of 2022 achieving increased
support by local authorities in Norfolk coastal towns, by taking the
message of the danger to seals to Parliament for debate with a

The accounts have been prepared on a consistent basis to previous years. ## **Taxation** The charity is not liable to taxation as it is not a trading organisation (not for profit) for tax purposes.
