Many were re-settled in the Wanni area of northem Sri Lanka, in rudimentary housing but without water supplies. these families we try to help. Summary of the main activities in relation to those purposes for the public benefit, in particular the activities, projecls or Se1$ identified in the accounts. Para 1.17 aTrJ 1.19 Most wells are built from scratch. but in some cases, we repair or secure a well which has been dug but not reinforced or without safety barriers, leaving them as serious hazards to both children and livestock. Families are selected non- discriminatory manner. Those families who are most in need. invariably where the main breadwinner was maimed or killed during the civil war are reviewed with the input of District Council staff, local church representatives and wmmunity leaders to pla them in priority order.
As well as for personal use, the supply of fresh water can be utilised for irrigating smallholdings producing fruit and vegetables for personal consumpts.on and for sale in locai markets. This pr(esS builds self-respect among families who have had to rely purely on charty to survrve Sin the end of the civil war. Our consistent support and oversighi of this project over many years has given others the cOnf[den to add their support. This has led to significant donations being made direct to the project team in Sii Lanka. The number of wells quoted in this report are a result of total funds Irom all sources donated to the Sri Lankan project team for the construction of wells. During the year Well- Being has diversified its activities to support poverty reduction projects in other areas of Sri Lanka in addition the to the activities in the Northern Provin. Well-Being financially supported the Methodist Church Sri Lanka with their programme titled, "The Samaritan Journe¢'. The Methodist Church in Sri Lanka through, "The Samarttan Journe programme provided relief to the most severely afferted families including: l. Provision of some basic food requirements and medicines. 2. Improve the educational facilities for students. 3. Para 1J8 Contribution made by volunteers For well construction activities managerial control is provided through a local supervisor who is fomally employed by Oru Paanai (a sister charity) at no charge. In this case all funds provided by Well Being-SL are spent on the provision of materials and, where neSsary. local construction labour and design expertise. Regular visits are made to Sri Lanka at the Trustees. own expense, oversee operations and ensure that the selection of families and communities for the allocation of funds is proceeding tairly and entirely deterrnined by the extent of families, needs. Achievements and Performance DurFng 202112022 the Charity raised £41918 from its friends and supporters. An increase in the financial contribution from Well-Being's sister chanty Oru Paanai (Water) made direct to the Srr Lanka operation, meant that Iwenty seven wells were LJ)nstructed over the year in question. Summary of the main achievements of the charity, idenb'fying the difference the charity's work has made to the circumstsnces of its beneficiaries and any wider benefits to society as a whole. Para 120 From tts inception to the end of 2021-2022, the Chartty has raised over £100.000 from its supporters in the United Kingdom and has provided a total of 153 wells {a further 31 wells were provided before the Charity was established, through a 'Pilot' project). This has resulted in a growing number of families who can live without fear of hunger and disease, with the wells providing domestic supplies, the irrigation of crops for f(x)d and for sale, and improved hygiene. Widespread conversations take place with those families who have benefited from Ihe proVisn of wells. to ensure that work is meeting good stsndards and fulfilling the Charity's objectives of securing families, fijtures at minimum cost.
