ort 2023
Total income for the year was £84,056.08
Total expenditure for the year was £62.¢Y30.87.
This gave a surplus of £21,965.21 forthe year. With paying back £IOOO,00 of Hub loan the final surplus
was £20,965.21.
We had no extra expenditure this year and as we have still not called a ministerto the church we are
not paying out a ministerfs stlpend. We do payth05e who come and preach each Sundav.
Most giving from the membership and congregation Is on-line but we still have a retiring offering for
those people that prefer to give in cash.
The church stlll supported Baptist World Mission and Home Mission during the year.
We employed a caretaker and cleaner part time.
The Church is a particlpating employer the 8optist Pension Scheme 1.the Stheme'l, which is a separate legal
entity administered by the Pension Trustee {Baptist Pension Trust Limited). The assets of the Scheme are held
separately from those of the Employer and the other participating employers. The Scheme. prevlously known as
the Baptist Ministers, Pension Fund, started in 1925, but wa5 closed to future accrual of deflned benefits on 31
December 2011. Prior to thi5 date the main benefit provided throu8h the Defined Beneflt IDBI Plan was
pension of one eightieth of final minimum pensionable income for each year of pensionable seNlce together with
additional pension in respect of premiums paid on Pensionable Income in excess of Minimum Pensionable
Income. Since l January 2012, benefits have been provided through a Defined Contribution (DCI Plan. A formal
valuation of the DB Plan as at 31 December 2019 by a professionally qualified Actuary usin8 the Projected Unit
Method. At the valuation date the market value of the DB Plan asset5 was £298 million. whilst the level of assets
needed to pay benefits was £316m, giving a deflcit of £18m (equivalent to a past service fundlng level of 94%).
The Church and the other participating employers in the DB Plan are collectively responsible for fundlng this
deficit. The next actuarial valuation of the DB Plan within the Scheme was due to take place not later than as at
31 December 2022. On 30th June 2022 the Baptist Pension Scheme signed an agreement wlth the insurance
company Just Group I"Just"I to secure DB Plan members. pension benefits. Just are now providing financial
backin8 for all pension5 provided through the Scheme's DB Plan and following this transaction, the Scheme no
longer has a shortfall. An updated Recovery plan was then si8ned in August 2022 under which recovery
contributions from each participating employer in the D8 Plan reduced to £1 per month from August 2022
We have a reserves policy that is reviewed annually. In that policy we keep £50,OCK) which ￿￿Uld cover
expenses for 3 months of employee pay and church running expenses and repair5.
The treasurer continues to use Expense plus for entering all transactions during the year.
I would like to thank Averell Scott for helping with on-line banking and Gift aid and John Murphy for
producing the end of year accounts.

Secretarys Report 2023
Margate Baptlst Church Cecil Square
This year was the first full year since 21x16 that we have not had a ￿11- time minister at Margate
Baptist Church. Dcspite that w¢ know that God has a plan for us and that He will continue to be
with us always.
Because of the faithful commitment of those Call￿ lo lead them, all our regular activities started in
January as usual and continued thmughout the year. For children and young pwple, we have Littl¢

Messy Church. lor the more mature Thursday Afternoon Fellowship and for everyone whether
onnected to the church or not, a twice weekly coffee morning that is open throughout the year.
Sthdy Club continua to welcome young people from year 9+ in Kairos during temi time, providing
them with a safe space, free wifi, IT equipment when necessary and advice and guidance to h¢lp
them with their preparations for exams and life beyond school.
Sunday Club and creche ¢ontinu¢ to be available during Sunday morning services for all childr¢n
although the older teenagers are encourdgsj to stay and join the main service more often.
The Boys, and Girls, Brigades continue to meet weekly during tenn time and we are grateful to all
those who continue to give of their time and expertise to prepare all the activities that engage,
encourage and cha]lenge all ihose who attend while showing them that they are loved by God.
Parties were held to Celebrate the new king's coronation and Junior and Senior Camps w¢r¢ h¢ld
again, with weekends away in the Summer. Both compani¢s led by the band continued to parad¢
through the streets after monthly Sunday Church Parades. Th¢ band played at various events
including leading the local Gr¢ek community in their Blessing of the Seas eva]t in January,
supporting the local Scout Groups at a very wd St George's Day gathering. leading the town
Remembrance Sunday Parade and at the switch on of Christmas lights at Broadstairs College and
Margatc's Christmas Market.
Kairos continues to open for a Renew Wellbeing S￿l0n every Tuesday morning and as a small café
with a limit¢d menu on Saturday mornings. Both these sessions are staffed entirely by volunteers.
New helpers are alway5 welcome and necessary if the cafe is to open more often. Porchlight use
the café on Wednesday mornings as a drop- in centre and private counselling s&ssions operate
upstairs on several days and evenings per week. At the town's Christmas Market, Kairos was open
and very busy all day, the NHS h¢ld a successful event in the church hall and Santa opend his
grotto in the front vestibule.
The leadeT5hip team Continued to oversee the running of the church during the year. Speakers w¢r¢
booked for every Sunday and we continue to bc blessed that so many people both locally and from
further aficld have been willing to travel and shar¢ God's word with us week by week. Later in the
year we w¢r¢ abl¢ to ask a newly retired Baptist Minister if he would Consider becoming our
Moderator during this period of pastoral va¢ancy. We are glad that he said yes and he has given us
so much SUPPOTL leading some services and preparing a preaching programme that helps our
visiting preachers and gives us some wntinuity too. He has given us wise counsel and help with
ever)¢hing we have trAed to do whilst we are still waiting for the minister God has chosen for us.
Christmas events again involv¢d many of the young and not so young prcsenting the nativity story
during a Christmas Eve café church and a service was held on Christmas Day too with members of
the fellowship leading and taking part.
We were abl¢ to purchase and deliver Christm&s gifts for our more elderly and housebound friends
and ￿cOUrage all those who were abl¢ to bring gifts of sweets and chocolate to be given to Thanet

Food Link so that those who had to use their servic¢ at Christm&s time could share in some
Christmas treats.
The Collier family held their coffee day in August and their always popular Christmas Fa)ffje. Both
these ¢venls raise money for Charities and given to them directly. Alex was also able to hold a
Macmillan c4)ffee day in her home with the money again given to the ch￿ltY directly.
The church building needs regular maintenance and we ar¢ grateful for the expertise and
commilment of Philip and Brian who wntinue to offer th¢ir time in insuring that everything
ontinues to be monitord and PToblems addressed and rectified as early as possible. It w&s agreed
by the church that monies given at Gift Day this year would be set aside towards the reparations that
would be need￿ at the Manse to prepare it for a new miDiSter when they are aP￿1Thted.
During the year the church website, which had be¢n in serious nc¢d of updating was finally ready,
makirAg it casier for people to contact us and find out who we are, what we believe and what w¢ do.
At the March munb¢rs m¢eting Judy Cro was re-elect￿ as treasurer and Ann Hilton was re-elected
as secretary for a fi]rther year. At the November election of deacons Anthony Wait was elected to
serve for a period of three year5 and Liz Bradshaw was elected to serv¢ for two years as sh¢ had
served an extra year during the Covid pandemic.
Our church cleaner retired during December. and it was subsequently decided to employ an outside
cleaning company to clean both the church building and the Kairos café and Community Space.
During the year w¢ w¢lcorned Dr LaHryence Emeghara back into membership after several y¢ars
living away. Seven of our fellowship received their home call; Dora Ebdale, Brenda Hammond.
Shirley Kennett, Frank Bixby, Phil Cro, Michael Lee and Peter Taylor. Although their earthly
presence among us will be very muth missed we rejoice with ¢ach of them that they are secure in
the presence of God. our Saviour and Lord worshipping and praising Him with all those who have
gone before. Ow membership now stands at 61 with one of Ihose living away.
