Trustees are to be appointed for a term of three years by a resolution Trustee selection methods passed at a properly convened meeting of the charity trustees. To promote the conservation of the marine environment worldwide for the public benefit by engaging the public in scientific study and to facilitate Summary of the objects of the research of marine plankton and the food chain in order to advance charity set out in its collective knowledge and understanding of the marine ecosystem and to governing document maintain biodiversity for the public good. The focus of our activity is upon enabling the public in the scientific study of the marine plankton and the food web it supports for the public good. To that end, The Secchi Disk Foundation promotes scientific study by the general public and creates and distributes to the public free online tools and educational materials, and maintains websites and databases accessible freely by the public. The trustees declare that they have complied with their duty to have due regard to the guidance on public benefit published by the commission in exercising their powers or duties. | Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year |
The Secchi Disk Foundation received one grant this year from the Whirlwind Charitable Trust (WCT) to enable the Foundation to fulfil its charitable objectives. The WCT grant enabled the Foundation to support the Secchi Disk study to update its smartphone mobile application called Secchi.Throughout this year the Foundation continued to support the expansion of the Secchi Disk study to include more participants from different seafaring groups.The Foundation also supported the publication of new citizen science output from the Secchi Disk study in the scientific journal_Nature Scientific Reports_in a paper titled “Citizens and scientists collect comparable oceanographic data: measurements of ocean transparency from the Secchi Disk study and science programmes” that is accessible for free from here: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-021-95029-z. As a result of its activities, the Foundation continues to engage the public through citizen science to provide a greater understanding of the marine ecosystem for the public good. |

The Secchi Disk Foundation’s Trustees aim to maintain a financial

Brief statement of the reserve to mitigate any one of the following: charity’s policy on reserves i) The risk of an unforeseen need for funds, e.g., an unexpected need to maintain services that the Foundation provides such as mobile apps, databases etc due to circumstances outside the Foundations control. This includes funds to cover unforeseen day-to-day operational costs. ii) Funds to enable the Secchi Disk Foundation to carry out work that cannot be met by future income alone, e.g., to promote the work of the Foundation or for a project that requires the Secchi Disk Foundation to provide ‘matched funding’. iii) To fund short-term deficits in a cash budget, e.g., money may need to be spent before a funding grant is received. iv) To provide secure funding for long-term resources provided by third parties that the Secchi Disk Foundation relies upon such as internet services, and other similar longer-term costs as the Trustees’ see fit.
