TRUSTEE’S REPORT

FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31ST MARCH 2022

Summary of the objects of the charity

The charity exists for the benefit of the public to relieve the suffering of dogs in need of care and attention, and in particular to provide and maintain rescue homes or other facilities for the reception, care and treatment of such dogs.

Summary of the charity’s main activities

The advancement of animal welfare, including working towards the protection and promotion of the welfare of animals. The charity provides treatment and care of abused, ill-treated, sick, injured and abandoned dogs. Support is also given to homes that have adopted rescued dogs. The charity raises funds to support the ongoing work in Cyprus and to fund the care of foster dogs in the UK.

Summary of the charity’s main achievements in the period

SPDC Rescue UK has given support to all the families who adopted dogs from Saving Pound Dogs Cyprus over the last five years where needed.

The 2021/22 period saw 186 dogs adopted into forever homes in the UK from Cyprus. SPDC Rescue UK has brought 2 dogs to foster homes in the UK, all went on to find forever homes. Rescue back up was provided to 10 dogs that needed to be moved from their original homes to new homes for various reasons. All are now happy and settled in new homes.

Funds were raised through donations, fundraising activities including supporter organised events, SPDC Facebook auction page and Gift Aid to pay the running costs for the Saving Pound Dogs Cyprus Sanctuary in Nicosia, where dogs are looked after and vet care given until they are healthy and new homes can be found for them. Financial help is also given for vet care of dogs in a pound near Limassol which is under the care of Saving Pound Dogs Cyprus. Funds were also provided to help with vet care and travel costs for dogs who were in foster homes in the UK.

The charity continues to sell our own label dog food. This grain free food is of high quality and was chosen to give our dogs the benefit of a good diet and promote their general wellbeing. The small profit from sales is sent to Cyprus to assist the dogs that remain there.

The website was maintained to promote dogs looking for homes and a rescue account with Pets4homes helped promote dogs in foster to find new homes.

SPDC Rescue UK continued as rescue partners with Agria insurance to offer free insurance to dogs going direct to adoptive homes in the UK from Saving Pound Dogs Cyprus. If an adopter then decides to fully insure with Agria, the charity receives an introducer fee. Microchip registration was given for all dogs entering the UK from Saving Pound Dogs Rescue in Cyprus.

On 4 May 2022 Samantha Robertson resigned as Chair. Lisa Pitt was appointed as chair the on the same date. Charlotte Bull became a Trustee on the 27 March 2022.
