Trustees Report 2024-25
We have had a very musically-varied season this year, starting with a semi-staged production of Chabrier’s Une Éducation manquée , featuring some talented young soloists, combined with Farrenc and Faure for a French Soirée . We were pleased to commission new works from Brown and Sturt again this year, including for our Children’s Concert – a Mozart spectacular with a wonderful narrator – Patrick Turnham – and local children performing in the orchestra as well as making up the SCO Children’s Choir. This was hugely popular with audience and players alike. For our season finale we welcomed back rising star Charlotte Saluste-Bridoux to play the Beethoven Violin Concerto , which she did with great style and musically, and to a rapturous reception. Despite putting on such a variety of music, including works by Reinecke and Enescu, we have managed to record a financial surplus this year, and recruit 20 new Friends of the orchestra. We are extremely pleased to continue to have Mark Austin as our conductor, constantly developing the orchestra and audience, and we have another exciting season planned for 2025-26.
