most most[favoured] favoured[format.] format. The[The] clinical clinical teem teem has[has] expanded expanded to to four four supervisors supervisors who who provide provide strong strong & & supportive supportive leadership leadership to[to] our our counsellors.[counsellors.]
We We have[have] made made substantial substantial investment[investment] tc[to] the the fabric fabric of[of] the the centre centre this this year. year. A[A] disabled[disabled] toilet toilet has[has] been[been] installed. installed. In[In] addition, addition, the the old[old] metal metal barred barred windows windows have have been[been] replaced replaced with with UPVC UPVC double double glazed glazed units units and[and] a a secure secure UPVC UPVC rear rear door door installed. installed.[This] This has[has] made made a a marked marked impact impact on on both[both] the the accessibility accessibility

They They deploy deploy their their skills skills and and experience experience without without remuneration remuneration beyond beyond minimal minimal expenses, expenses, and and many many of[of] them them waive waive even even that.[that.] This This is is what what enables enables ACS ACS to to offer offer a a genuinely genuinely affordable affordable service service to to our our clients, clients, many many of of whom whom may may be be considered considered to to be be 'less ‘less well-off'. well-off’. They They have have developed developed a a strong strong and and supportive supportive team team who who in in conjunction conjunction with with the Administrator the Administrator and and Manager Manager provide provide comprehensive comprehensive support support to[to] the[the] counsellors. counsellors. There There is is a a well-regarded well-regarded programme programme o* o: Continuous Continuous Professional Professional Development Development to to ensure ensure that that our our volunteers volunteers continue continue to to develop develop their their skills. skills. As As well well as as trained trained counsellors counsellors we we recruit recruit and and develop develop trainee trainee counsellors counsellors who who are are undertaking[undertaking] their their Diploma Diploma in in Counselling Counselling at at local local colleges, colleges, training training establishments establishments[and] and universities.[universities.] We We continue continue to to review review our our administrativa administrative systems systems and and implement implement changes changes that that support support best best practise. practise. There There has has been been some some turnover turnover of of volunteers volunteers throughout throughout the the year, year, and and we we continue continue to to look look at at increasing increasing retention retention of of volunteer[volunteer] counsellors, counsellors, including including trials trials to to afford afford them them some some renumeration. renumeration. It It is is our our intention[intention] to to continue[continue] exploring[exploring] ways ways that[that] we we might[might] be[be] able[able] to[to] do[do] this,[this,] while[while] ensuring[ensuring] the[the] viability[viability] and and survival survival of of the the[service.] service. We We continue continue to to welcome welcome new new volunteer[volunteer] counsellors counsellors from from a a diverse diverse range range of of backgrounds, backgrounds, and and we we hope hope their[their] time time here[here] will will be[be] rewarding.[rewarding.]

created created and and implemented implemented a a number number of of changes changes such such as as the the introduction introduction of of templates templates and and updating[updating] of of
counsellor counsellor forms forms that that have have made made a a tangible tangible difference difference to to the[the] administrative administrative support[support] that that our our counsellors counsellors receive. receive. The The Administrator[Administrator] hours hours were were increased[increased] to to facilitate facilitate the[the] continuing[continuing] increase[increase] in[in]
workload. workload.
A A[co-operative] co-operative and and collaborative collaborative relationship relationship has[has] been been established[established] between[between] the[the] Clinical[Clinical] & & Business[Business]
team team[with] with regular[regular] quarterly quarterly meetings[meetings] and[and] the[the] introduction introduction of[of] Supervision[Supervision] of[of] Supervision[Supervision] meetings.[meetings.]

a a major major impact impact on on our our financial[financial] situation[situation] for[for] 2025,[2025,] resulting[resulting] in[in] a[a] loss loss to to our our income income of[of] approx. approx. £12,000[E][ 12,000]
per per annum. annum.[It] It is[is] also[also] a[a] loss[loss] to to us us of[of] colleagues[colleagues] that[that] had[had] become[become] part[part] of[of] the[the] ACS[ACS] extended[extended] team.[team.] We[We] will will be be advertising advertising our our rooms rooms more more widely[widely] to to increase increase revenue. revenue.
We We have have increased[increased] our our[volunteer] volunteer counsellor[counsellor] numbers[numbers] to to assist[assist] us us in[in] reducing[reducing] the[the] waiting[waiting] list.[list.] Our[Our]
Increased Increased counsellor counsellor sessions sessions have have resulted resulted in in much much higher higher client client contributions contributions again again in in 2024 2024 but but

Much Much of[of] the the CPD CPD provision provision for[for] this this year year has[has] been been heavily heavily subsidised subsidised & & a a reasonable reasonable attendance[attendance] achieved achieved for[for] some some events. events. For For example, example, ‘Counselling 'Counselling and and the[the] Law’[Law'] However, However, it[it] has[has] proved[proved] generally[generally] difficult difficult to to encourage encourage counsellors[counsellors] back back to to in[in] person person training.[training.] On[On] occasion,[occasion,] targeted[targeted] training[training] has[has] been[been] offered offered and and subsidised subsidised to to individuals[individuals] rather rather than than offering offering full full courses. courses. We We continue continue to to try[try] & & improve improve our our CPD CPD[offering] offering and[and] hope[hope] to to become[become] a[a] service[service] where[where] all[all] counsellors[counsellors] are are ‘Trauma 'Trauma informed’[informed']
Counsellors Counsellors connect connect which which is[is] a a networking networking event event run run by[by] Darren Darren Sharpe Sharpe has[has] proved proved to to be[be] of of great great value. value. This This event event runs runs quarterly quarterly and and is[is] open open to[to] both both ACS ACS and and external external counsellors counsellors and and has[has] provided[provided] a a number number of of valuable[valuable][training] training topics topics for[for] counsellors counsellors to[to] attend[attend] in[in] a[a] relaxed relaxed and and sociable[sociable] environment. environment.

Communication Communication and[and] support[support] provided[provided] to to counsellors[counsellors] and[and] clients[clients] alike[alike] is[is] much[much] improved,[improved,] with[with] the[the] office office being being manned manned Mon-Fri Mon-Fri during during core core daytime daytime hours hours between between the the Manager Manager and and Administrator. Inductions Inductions are are run run for for all all new new counsellors counsellors in in training training where where they they receive receive a a comprehensive comprehensive overview overview of of all all systems systems and and documentation. documentation.
