Our brief History:
Onginally Petsons vtho kft St Michael'$ Churth ol Eng18nd. Wothngton around 1900 in
opposition lo the Tractarian Movement eventualty formed Christ Church. Edkin Stree
assoaated with the Protestant Evangel￿al Churth of England.
In 1926 after diswte, the Mini*er. Rev John Hurt walked out ofthe church taking fifty adults
th him. In 1929 they called themselves Emmanuel Church and purchased the land on
VulGqn's Lane on 18th Juty 1931. The present ￿J1￿[￿g Vds ereded and opened on 4th
February 1933 al the Church's expense.
In January 1939 Ernrnanuel joirEd the Free Chur(* of England. The differences belween
evangelicals on the one hand and those cOrnm￿e￿ to indismminate etAJmenism on the
other hand came lo a hears In October 2003 wth the retsrement of ihe p￿SIdIng Bishop.
the minister of Emmanuel Church, Workington. Subsequenty. the Genetal Counol gf the FCE
voted to Inte￿ret a letter frorn Emmanuel'5 rninister as a ￿vJnats.on. contrary to the fact and
subsequently vrote Lette￿ Disrnis50ry to Rt Rev Athur Benttey-TaOor. When the General
Counol required Emmanuel to appoint a new mini8tef, seven thurthes fo￿e￿ what came to
be known as the Evaroelical Connexion of the FCE_

Revlew of Activlties for 202212023
The Trustees have met during the year lonline. via messenger group and face to fac*) for
Council Meetings. Thi8 Report conc£ms the wolk of the Church Counol (Management
trustees) during 202212023. In July 2023. a report on the Churth's financ*s was given to the
Annval Congregational Meebng and it was agreed that our spellding was line our aims
as a trust. Our aims are to prornoie the ch￿stIan farth in Workington and beyond. working wth
other churche5 and iThJividu31s a5 appropriate.

covery mode both in attendance and finanaalty. Many bugnesses got grants and help during
the pandemic but ¢hurd￿S (treated and Categortzed as business) were largely negkcted.

In order to recover trom covid lockdowns and related thallefiges. we held bnng & share Meals to
faalitate times of ￿IntegratiOn and friendships. We ho￿ hvo rntig-week Bibk Studies.
walking group every Tuesday. a Murn5 an(5 TcMYdlers group rneets every Wednesday,"
and Youth groups Fnday lage5 5-181. We also parbap3te In the kJL*l Workington Park run.
A Sunday schcx)l is provided rnc6t Sundays during our moming Ser￿￿S. We also have a ladE5
crart aftemcM)n (Busy Fingers) combining wrth a lunth dub to s00al￿e and ￿lme together.
We continue to try rise funds foc a Gospel worter fooJssiry on our youlh. A Gospel wotl(ers
fund to try raise 3 salary for an additsonal worker to assL8t ￿Uth and outreath has been

Our Walk for Heatth Group G91￿d Jericho strollers is going *EII. It ha5 been well supported and
proved to be a muth needed rninistry for our church.
Me818 are held during Ihe year and induding Chnstrnas and at around New year. OUT
Fellowship days aroun¢1 our wrnmunty have been well supported by our members and
cornmunily.
An exating facebcd( messenger group called the 'Prayer line. mntinue5 to be a help lo wnnect
with people from our Church but also care ft>r Ihem prayerfully alld a150 pradic8lly where ab￿.
We have also benefrtted frorn our new fo￿at Evening ser￿￿ ant1 wel(¥me all our ccrnmunity
and visitors to join us.
We have Intr￿U￿￿ the Liveslrearning of our ser¥ices via a private faL%book group. Thi5 h35
proveil benefiaal to those who 3re unable to attend churth.
Mission & Minislry
The Church Council continued to financially support thtee missk)nary workers. Professor Andy
Mclntosh, Rod Thomas (Japan) and Mr Eric Magowan. We support C￿ation North West and
vanety of people vtho promote the Christian f31th in our r￿Mmunity and Intemationally. Further
5UPPOrt via donations are also given to the Leprosy Mission Mission Aviation Fellowship.

Rev Anthony. Pieter3en who joined us in Septembef 2010 as our new pastor, has been wort(ing
toward our vision. to be an ever InuEasing 'Bible-believing tsmily thurch. seeking to reach.

Risk assessment
We employ an ongoing review process focused on OUT chihlTen, yO￿h Work and dealing
*ith vulnerable adults. All who work wth people in this aw have been DBS checked
and we have a Safeguarding Policy in plaGe. Mr D. Temple assisted by Mrs R Thorpe
are our Safeguarding officer. We are a full member of THIRTY ONE .' EIGHT

Policy on reserves
The chaTlty policy is lo keep sufficient reserves to meet all expenditure as it becomes due.
