# **Chairs report for Down Right Worthy**

## **July 2023-June2024**

## **AGM 10[th] July 2024**

This is my 5[th] year as Chair. We’ve had a bit of a tough year getting enough people to attend events we had planned on hosting. We are working very hard to hopefully see some changes in the upcoming year.

## **July**

The first organised event of the year was to Whale of a Time soft play, it’s a firm favourite amongst the younger ones as it is all very easily accessible for toddlers and young children.

## **August**

The younger members of the group went to Simple Sounds Barn for some Montessori type playing for the younger members of our group. We only had a few families attend but that did not stop the children from having lots of fun exploring all the toys they had to offer. I think the dressing up corner was the favourite amongst them.

## **September**

We went along to Whale of a Time soft play again this month. So much fun was had by all that attended. We also hosted a charity night that included a drag act and raffle, it was a well attended evening and everyone had a great time. There was lots of laughs and people danced the night away. We raised an impressive £1765.10 for the charity, it was a fabulous night all round.

## **October**

We had our Halloween party this month, there was a little stress with the venue being double booked but once we got situated in a different venue everyone had a great time. There was lots of happy faces and scary outfits. The limbo seemed to be a firm favourite.

## **November**

We had our big Christmas event a little early this year, we went to Kielder Winter Wonderland in Northumberland. It was very well attended and so many fun things to do there from small theatre shows, seeing the reindeers, watching the Mrs Clause show,

enchanting stories, making things in the toy workshop, choosing a gift from the toy emporium and of course the best part of the day was meeting Father Christmas.

## **December**

We never managed to get out big pantomime event this year due to the venue going through refurbishments but the older children and young adults did attend the Green Room for a smaller pantomime. They were roaring with laughter and really engaged with the cast throughout. There are some lovely friendship groups with our young adults which is very heartwarming to see. Its safe to say they loved it.

## **January**

We attended soft play at whale of a time again this month. It was well attended and thoroughly enjoyed as usual.

## **February**

We done pancake making this month for Shrove Tuesday, there was some very good measuring and mixing skills by the younger and the older members that attended. We finished off the evening with a pancake flipping competition. It was a great evening and we look forward to doing it again one day.

## **March**

The littles ones went to Whale of Time soft play this month, its so nice to see how much the little ones have grown and how independent they are now.

## **May**

We organised a trip to The Lake District Wildlife Park this month, sadly only 2 families attended but they did have a great time.

We also booked the soft play at Rheged in Penrith, it was a lovely afternoon and everyone had so much fun.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank each member of the committee for their continued commitment and dedication to the charity by attending regular meetings. I would like to thank Julie for stepping in as secretary whilst Kellie had to take some time out – we

will hopefully be seeing Kellie return in the near future. Thank you to Susan (treasurer) for keeping the accounts up to date and adding events to the website when needed. Thank you to Robyn (vice chair) for being a fantastic support to myself and the charity and always being on hand for help. Lastly, I would like to thank Sam Kennon for organising the baby/toddler groups despite not having an official role within the charity, it is very appreciated.

A special thank you to those that have helped fundraise this year, all donations are much appreciated and very gratefully received.

With all of the above said we are very sadly seeing some of our committee members stand down from their roles. Susan has been treasurer for many years but unfortunately cannot continue in the role due to other commitments. Robyn has also been on the committee for many years starting out as Chair and finishing her time as vice chair. It’s a very sad time for the charity but hopefully we will have some fabulous people step into their roles and continue the good work.
