Activity Report Aug 2023 to Aug 2024
SEP 2023
We made visits to oversee solar power installation at Sinandambwe and Kabuyu Primary School and to supply these schools with computers, monitors and offline learning resources.
We liaised with District Education Board Secretary (DEBS) on present and future needs. At her request we visited Manchamvwa Lakeshore to assess their solar power. While we were on the lake we also visited Munyama where everything was working well.
We met with Miombo BeeKeeping Cooperative and Pellger Hamoonga of Siavonga Nutrition Group to discuss how we could support livelihoods.
We took part in a successful two-day conference on Physical Computing in Kafue, organised in conjunction with NAQEZ (National Action for Quality Education in Zambia).

AGM of Giakonda Solar Schools was held to approve annual returns for Charity Commission. A group of Zambian teachers paid an exchange visit to Swansea and several of our trustees and supporters managed to meet up with them. We sent some items back to Siavonga with them. Bridget and Daniel have been visiting schools to trouble shoot and assess future needs. NOV 2023
Miombo Beekeeping Cooperative has received new hives from local Ministry of Agriculture and we are getting donations of equipment to send out to them.
Richmond Rd Ladies Fellowship made us one of their charities of the year and donated £100. Sue has been successfully selling donated shoes and has raised nearly £300 so far.

Miombo Beekeepers Cooperative were pleased to receive our donation of bee suits and have set up their new hives.

We submitted an application for a grant under Welsh Government’s Wales and Africa Scheme administered by WCVA. We have applied for £9975 to install solar power and provide IT equipment to Chizilika School.
MAY 2024
We were pleased to receive photos of pupils at Sinandambwe school enjoying the use of computers and to hear that our grant application had been successful.
JUN 2024
Physical computing training in Choma at the District Teachers’ Resource Centre. The two days’ training was very enthusiastically received as was the donation of three Pico kits per school. This was followed by two days training at the Teachers Resource Centre in Monze- again well attended and received.
Great news that we received a grant from Welsh Government through their Wales and Africa scheme administered by WCVA. We are providing 6 solar panels and batteries, an inverter , a battery gauge, lightning protection and all the connectors and cabling for lighting and power switches. We also delivered ten Raspberry Pi400 computers with monitors, a large TV and a printer.
We visited Chizilika School using Siavonga District Land Cruiser and accompanied by DEBS . Muhunya Solar made an efficient job of installing solar power to the delight of the whole community who turned out to celebrate with dance and song. Our technicians Bridget and Farai returned to the school to install the computers and give training on their use.
JUL 2024
Francis sent all course attendees a video of the heart beat simulation to continue using physical computing.
AUG 2024
We received an update from Chizilika School. The school has devised a rota so that all 370 pupils (157 boys and 213 girls) get hands on experience of using a computer. Five members of the local community are attending computer lessons delivered outside school time by the head teacher. Farai was chosen to demonstrate plant irrigation using Raspberry Pi at this years JETS fair ( Junior Engineers, Technicians Scientists ). He won first prize in the teachers’ section for Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Innovations.
