The objects of the CIO are: To educate the public and members of the Regiment in the history and military accomplishments of the Regiment, or which further the objects of the CIO, and to promote military efficiency and encourage recruitment by public exhibition of the Collection in a Museum or Museums or such other public places as the Trustees may, from time to time, decide and to conserve, restore, repair, reconstruct and preserve objects in the Collection. The Trustees confirm that they have referred to the Charity Commission's general guidance on public benefit when reviewing the charity's aims and objectives and in planning future activities. Trustees: The Trustees must have, and accept, ultimate responsibility for directing the affairs of the Royal Lancers Museum Trust, and ensuring that it is solvent, well-run, and meeting the needs for which it has been set up. Additionally, Trustees should be appointed on the basis of their knowledge of the Regiment and the collection. Trustees are recruited and appointed by the full board of Trustees. A record is made in the Minutes. Details of this process are laid down in the Governing Document. The new Trustee is required to read the current Charity Commission's guidance covering the responsibilities of the Trustees, and on Public Benefit and are required to read and comply with the CIO document which each of them receives. 1 **Royal Lancer Museum Trust Registered number: 1169097 Report** Financial Review: The net receipts on the general fund amounted to £16,068 loss for the year. Funding: The Trustees are satisfied that the Charity's funds are available and adequate to fulfil its obligations. ## **Statement of Trustees Responsibilities** The Trustees are required under the Charities Act 1993 to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the Charity's financial activities during the year and of it's financial position at the end of the year (unless the Charity is entitled to prepare accounts on the alternative receipts and payments basis). In preparing financial statements giving a true and fair view, the Trustees should follow best practice and: - a) Select suitable accounting policies and apply them consistently - b) Make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent - c) Follow applicable accounting standards and Charities SORP disclosing and explaining any departures in the accounts. and d) Prepare the financial statements on an ongoing concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the Charity will continue in operation. ## **Accounts** The Trustees are responsible for keeping accounting records which are such as to disclose with reasonable accuracy the financial position of the Charity at any time and to enable them as Trustees to ensure that the accounts comply with Charity Law. The Trustees are also responsible for safeguarding the Charity's assets and ensuring their proper application in accordance with Charity Law and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of error, fraud and other irregularities. 2 **Royal Lancer Museum Trust Registered number: 1169097 Report** ## **RLMT Report December 2021** ## **Overview** We continue to have two museums, one in Derby operating under the Derby Museum and Arts Trust and the other at Thorseby operating under the management of the Royal Lancers and Nottinghamshire Yeomanry Museum Trust Limited. ## **Trustees** There are currently five trustees, reflecting the intended reduction made in last year's report: these consist of the Chairman; one trustee from each half of our heritage plus one civilian with specific medals expertise and the Commanding Officer (ex offixio). In all probability the previous Regimental Secretary will also be appointed shortly. ## **Report of the Chairman** Our two museums have largely been closed during the pandemic, which has severely curtailed our ability to display our objects and tell our story. Nor have we been able to achieve our outreach and educational aims. On the other hand, we have carried out a comprehensive third party review of our entire collection including our extensive reserve collection, and the curators have been able to satisfy themselves that our conservation goals are being met. We have also been able to identify gaps in our collection, as well, as setting aside redundant objects for consideration for disposal. We have watched diligently for new items to acquire, and have been successful in obtaining funding from external agencies like the V & A for the bids we have made. We have renewed our online presence and are in the process of completing our "History of the Lancers in 12 Objects" project, as well as formalising our bid for a CVRT to display once they are no longer in regular service. As a board of trustees, we are satisfied that, with the financial support of the MoD Grant in Aid and our parent organisation the Royal Lancers Charitable Trust, we are in a strong position to resume our work as the pandemic withdraws.
