Section D Achievements and performance

**Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year**

During the autumn of 2022 Music In Mind began a consultation period with a number of local councils, Arts Council England and The National Heritage lottery Fund regarding a coastal voice project to capture the music and heritage in the accent of a number of England’s coastal towns. This resulted in funding from North East Lincolnshire Council for a 6 week pilot project in early 2023 with 5 schools, Grimsby based arts organization Our Big Picture and local arts practitioners. The success of the pilot project has led to the development of a larger Heritage Lottery bid for a wider coastal project with 3 councils in Sefton, North East Lincolnshire and Dover for 2024.

Music In Mind was delighted to be asked by Culture Liverpool to help arrange the music and performers for the opening concert of Liverpool’s Eurovision Festival. The ‘Eurotopia’ concert featured well-known pop artists from the past and present, Ukrainian musicians currently living in the UK plus musicians from the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and Liverpool Brass. June 2023 also included a presentation and performance of Music In Mind’s award winning ‘Behind Doors’ piece at the national Housing Conference at Manchester Central.

Music In Mind has continued to work with The Brain Charity on the innovative 'Music Makes Us Happy' dementia project. A Music in Mind singing specialist worked alongside a speech therapist to deliver singing workshops to people living with dementia with the aim of using music to prolong speech.

The remaining months of 2023 were spent developing the Heritage Lottery bid with Sefton, NELC and Dover councils for submission in autumn 2023 and a potential project start in early 2024.

Music In Mind was delighted to be asked by Culture Liverpool to help arrange the music and performers for the opening concert of Liverpool's Eurovision Festival. The 'Eurotopia' concert featured well-known pop artists from the past and present, Ukrainian musicians currently living in the UK plus musicians from the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and Liverpool Brass. June 2023 also included a presentation and performance of Music In Mind's award winning 'Behind Doors' piece at the national Housing Conference at Manchester Central.

Music In Mind has continued to work with The Brain Charity on the innovative 'Music Makes Us Happy' dementia project. A Music in Mind singing specialist worked alongside a speech therapist to deliver singing workshops to people living with dementia with the aim of using music to prolong speech.

The 'History Whisperer' immersive exhibition for Liverpool's St George's Hall, developed with Gazooky Studios and Immersive Interactive, remains in place and will be extended in late 2023. The exhibition, documenting the history of the hall and featuring original music by Music In Mind, is one of Liverpool's tourist attractions.

The remaining months of 2023 were spent developing the Heritage Lottery bid with Sefton, NELC and Dover councils for submission in autumn 2023 and a potential project start in early 2024.

As the charity trustees of the Trust you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 ('the Act').

I report in respect of my examination of the Trust's accounts carried out under Section 145 of the Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under Section 145(5)(b) of the Act.

## **Independent examiner's statement**

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Trust as required by Section 130 of the Act; or

2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or

3. the accounts do not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a true and fair view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
