Chairmans report 1[st] of February 2024

The friends of Wincobank hill have had a very successful year last year. Firstly, we started it off with the Sheffield heritage fair and as usual this was very well attended by members of the public. We also had some fantastic talks over the year as well as the successfully obtaining heritage lottery funding and completing the first round of geophysical survey on the hillfort and members have also discovered and investigated new brick structures upon the hill. We have also undertaken a number of successful conservation sessions.

Also, the Brigantes had a very busy schedule with attendance to events at Thornborough Henge, Whirlow Farm, Eboracum (York Roman Festival), Brough, Lytham Saint Anns and Wincobank so the Brigantes can now say they have been to every corner of their territory last year and raised £300 for Wincobank.

We also brought back and undertook a very successful Light Up the Hill 2023 and we had over 200 children and parents in attendance, and we did such a good job both councillors and public have requested we undertake the task again for 2024 as all had a wonderful time. We have been gifted £1000 pounds to buy a PA system for the event and an Iron Age carnyx for us to blow.

Looking forward to this year we have some fantastic talks to look forward to as well hopefully more investigation of the hillfort and as previously mentioned Light up the Hill 2024 I am also hoping the Brigantes to be back on tour and to contact the universities to put a stall up to interest potential students.

I would like to thank all volunteers/ members for their continued support and participation in events without your support none of this would be possible.
