Report to the Charities Committee The Moretonhampstead Bowring Library Charitable Trust Report: January 2024– December 2024 1. The Moretonhampstead Bowring Library Charitable Trust (MBLCT) was registered as a charity at the end of August 2016. Its charitable purposes are as set out in its constitution dated 31.8.16: 3.1 FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE INHABITANTS OF MORETONHAMPSTEAD PARISH AND SURROUNDING AREAS, AND OF VISITORS TO THE TOWN, TO PRESERVE AND MAINTAIN THE GRADE II LISTED BOWRING LIBRARY BUILDING WITH THE AIM OF CONTRIBUTING TO THE HISTORIC ENVIRONMENT AND THE CULTURE AND HERITAGE OF THE TOWN; AND 3.2 FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE INHABITANTS OF MORETONHAMPSTEAD PARISH AND SURROUNDING AREAS, AND OF VISITORS, TO ADVANCE EDUCATION AND TO PROMOTE GOOD HEALTH AND WELL-BEING, IN PARTICULAR BUT NOT EXCLUSIVELY THROUGH THE PROVISION OF A PUBLIC LIBRARY. and have not been subsequently changed. ## 2. During the reporting period : The following trustees were in post: Richard Durnford, Jane Bowes, John Farrand Rogers, Vivienne Hodges, Bas Payne, Hugh Arnold.and Camilla Rooney. The trust continues to encourage participation from further trustees in the local community. 3. The trustees met informally during the reporting period and business was maintained throughout the reporting period via continuous email contact. 4. The first aim of the trust is to negotiate the transfer of the Bowring Library building from Devon County Council (DCC) to the local community so that repairs can be undertaken and the long term future of the building secured. ## 5. The Trust has appointed a solicitor to act for the Trust. 6 The Trust has continued negotiations with Devon County Council and we await the decision of the meeting due to be held in January 2025. The proposal is for the building to be transferred by the end of April 2025.
