The Moretonhampstead Bowring Library Charitable Trust 

Report: January 2022 – December 2022 

1.  The Moretonhampstead Bowring Library Charitable Trust (MBLCT) was registered as a charity at the end of August 2016.  Its charitable purposes are as set out in its constitution dated 31.8.16: 

3.1 FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE INHABITANTS OF MORETONHAMPSTEAD PARISH AND SURROUNDING AREAS, AND OF VISITORS TO THE TOWN, TO PRESERVE AND MAINTAIN THE GRADE II LISTED BOWRING LIBRARY BUILDING WITH THE AIM OF CONTRIBUTING TO THE HISTORIC ENVIRONMENT AND THE CULTURE AND HERITAGE OF THE TOWN; AND 

3.2 FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE INHABITANTS OF MORETONHAMPSTEAD PARISH AND SURROUNDING AREAS, AND OF VISITORS, TO ADVANCE EDUCATION AND TO PROMOTE GOOD HEALTH AND WELL-BEING, IN PARTICULAR BUT NOT EXCLUSIVELY THROUGH THE PROVISION OF A PUBLIC LIBRARY. 

and have not been subsequently changed. 

## 2. During the reporting period : 

The following trustees were in post: Clive Bowring, Richard Durnford, Jane Bowes Vivienne Hodges, Bas Payne, Hugh Arnold. and Camilla Rooney. 

The trust continues to encourage participation from further trustees in the local community. 

3. The trustees met informally during the reporting period and business was maintained throughout the reporting period via continuous email contact. 

4. The first aim of the trust is to negotiate the transfer of the Bowring Library building from Devon County Council (DCC) to the local community so that repairs can be undertaken and the long term future of the building secured. 

5. The Trust has appointed a solicitor to act for the Trust and is in continuing negotiation with DCC for the transfer of the building.
