Summary of the main
activities undertaken for the
public benefit in relation to
these objects (include within

Commission on public

To help young people from deprived backgrounds, especially but not
exclusively through leisure time activities, including circus skills, so as to
develop their capabilities that they may grow to full maturity as individuals
and members of society.
Balloon Circus has organised and delivered a series of structured play
and circus skills workshops led by sensitive and experienced volunteer
workshop leaders to young people in orphanages and special needs
schools.
The workshops have been carefully designed to:
●Build confidence and self-esteem of participants
●Encourage teamwork
●Engage the left and right side of the body and the brain
●Help participants to confront the unknown, react to the unexpected
and plunge into the next challenge with confidence
●Bring laughter and joy to young people in a safe and nurturing
environment
●Build the skills and confidence of the institution’s staff to help the
children to continue to build on the skills after the workshop has
finished.
The trustees have had due regard to the Charity Commission’s public
benefit guidance when exercising any powers or duties to which the
guidance is relevant

Section D Achievements and performance

Summary of the main
achievements of the charity
during the year
2023 - 2024 proved another great year for us at Balloon Circus.
Our primary focus is on promoting good health and wellbeing, in line with
Sustainable Development Goal 3. We also aim to teach critical thinking
skills, and provide alternative play to their normal activities.
For vulnerable young people, especially those who have experienced
conflict or trauma, circus workshops can be a form of escape,
overcoming hardship, where they share their experiences and express
their emotions.
Circus skills can be used to teach life skills, including perseverance,
teamwork, trust and positive risk-taking.
Young people can apply these life skills outside of the circus – which can
help make them more employable and taking part in workshops can give
a sense of self-worth while boosting their confidence, in turn they can
continue making a positive difference in the world.
During our tour, we engaged the children in various activities that
included circus workshops and balloon modelling. We spent time
teaching them different skills and sharing our experiences, with the aim of
increasing their confidence levels.
We held 10 workshops teaching over 700 children. We drove over 2000
km to reach them all and the whole tour cost £3166

Section E Financial review

Balloon Circus has a small reserves policy of £500 in 2023/24 to Brief statement of the cover any administration costs. On the basis that it does not charity’s policy on reserves employ any staff and the risk of unforeseen emergency or other unexpected need for funds is small. The charity has no liabilities in terms of premises, equipment, pensions etc and no committed regular expenditure. It does not rely on regular income from grant applications or apply to deliver projects on a ‘matched funding’ basis. There is no cashflow issue - i.e. money is not spent or committed before it has been raised. However the trustees have agreed that the policy should be kept under review as demanded by the risk register and risk management policy.
