The objectlve of the Frlends of the World of Bede Is to advance the educatlon
of the publlc In the Ilfe, work and tlmes of the Venerable Bede, prfmarlly by
supportin8 and asslsting the charltsble work of the Bede Museum at Jarrow.
but also through Its own actlvltles away from the Bede Museum at locatlons
wlth hlstorlcal Ilnks to the Venerable Bede and Anglo Saxon Brltaln more
generally.

Summary of the Maln Activlties Undertaken for the Publlc Benefit In Relation
to the Charlty's Objects.
The Charlty contlnued to Ilalse on a regular basls wlth representatives from
Jarrow Hall. the arm of Groundwork that Is responslble for the day to day
runnlng of the Bede Museum. These dlscusslons Included matters such as the
Interlor deslgn of an Anglo•Saxon repllca bulldlng that was belng renovated.
Changes to the layout of the Museum's dlsplays was a toplc also addressed.
The Charfty played a slgnlficant role In plannlng and preparlng for a major
exhlbltion at the Bede Museum commemoratlng the Ilfe and achlevements of
the founder of the Museum, the late Dame Professor Rosemary Cramp, the
renowned academlc who from 1963 until 1978 ran the archaeological
excavattons of the medleval monastery at Jarrow where Bede Ilved and
wrote works of such great hlstorlcal Importance. The Charlty worked closely
wlth the staff of the Bede Museum In arranglng the physlcal and wrltten
contents of the exhlbltfon. The Exhlbltion opened In May 2024.
In September 2024 the Charlty presented the bespoke repllca An810-Saxon
sword whlch It had commlssloned to the Bede Museum. On the same
occaslon It held a study day devoted to new perspecllves on the Sword In
An81o-Saxon England, whlch comprlsed three publlc lerture5 and a
demonstratlon by a re-enactment group of Anglo-saxon combat technlques.
In October and November 2024 the Charlty held a serles of three publlc
lectures to celebrate the 950th annlversary of the re-foundation of the
monastery at Jarrow In 1074.
In September 2024 the Charlty organlsed a tour of the archaeologlcal dlg at
Llndlsfarne Prlory, presented by the archaeologlst In charge of the
excavatlon, Dr. Davld Petts. The Charlty continued to sponsor one of the
archaeologlsts worklng at the dl8.
The Frlends of the World of Bede contlnued to Ilalse wlth and advlse
Groundwork on the best means of achleving greater recognltion of the
Importance of the Bede Museum In promoting knowledge of the Anglo Saxon
hlstory of the North East of England and In publlclsln8 the academlc
518nlficance of Its collection.

The Charity held dlscusslons wlth Groundwork regardlng a new arrangement
for It to have formal Input Into Groundwork's declslons regardlng the Bede
Museum's collection. academlc standlng and future general dlrection.
Financial Review
Brlef Statement of the Charlty's Pollcy on Reserves
The Trustees reserve pollcy Is to retaln at least slx months normal
expendlture In reserve. On thls basls the Charlty has sufficlent reserves to
meet thls requlrement.
Statutory Notes to the Accounts
The CharltVs Income for the perlod Is £785. Consequently, the charlty has
declded not to face the expendlture of havln8 the 2024 accounts examlned
by an Independent Examlner. as requlred for CIOS wlth an annual Income of
£25,000 or more.
