Charity Needs Foundation Annual Return and Trustee Report April 6th 2023 — April 5th 2024
The trustees of Charity Needs Foundation (CNF) are:
Jonathan Fleming — Founder Andrea Arnold & Hazel Arnold
Overview
The past year has been a transitional period for the charity, marked by reduced trustee activity due to significant personal and academic commitments. Despite this, the strategic decisions made by the trustees reflect a long-term vision for strengthening the charity’s capacity and impact in the coming years.
Trustee Contributions and Developments
Educational Advancements and Strategic Growth
-
Two trustees, Jonathan Fleming and Andrea Arnolds , were engaged in higher education pursuits, focusing on BA Honours and MA degrees in Photography and Fine Art , respectively. While this limited their immediate contributions, these studies were undertaken with the understanding that the skills, networks, and insights gained would benefit the charity from 2025/26 onwards .
-
Andrea Arnolds successfully completed her BA Honours Degree in Fine Art with a 2:1 classification and intends to pursue an MA, further enhancing her ability to contribute to the charity’s creative and strategic initiatives.
-
Jonathan Fleming remains committed to his BA studies in Photography, aiming to apply the skills acquired towards the charity’s mission in the future.
Personal and Professional Commitments
- Hazel Arnold faced a year of personal commitments and professional development , which limited her direct involvement with the charity. However, she remains dedicated and anticipates resuming a more active role once her circumstances stabilise. Her teaching and arts expertise will be pivotal in future charity projects.
Charity Operations
-
While trustee activity was reduced, website updates and charity listings continued to be maintained, ensuring the charity’s operational presence was upheld.
-
Strategic discussions were held regarding long-term sustainability and development , focusing on utilising educational advancements to drive future projects and initiatives.
Looking Ahead
Although the year saw minimal direct involvement , the charity’s long-term trajectory remains promising. The academic and professional pursuits undertaken by the trustees will bring enhanced skills, knowledge, and networks , which will be instrumental in shaping the charity’s future activities. As trustees complete their studies and stabilise their personal commitments, the charity is set to re-engage and expand its impact in the coming years.
The trustees appreciate the support and understanding within the organisation and remain dedicated to its mission, with a collective aim to strengthen, innovate, and contribute more actively soon.
Trustee Report — Jonathan Fleming For the period 6th April 2023 - 5th April 2024
Trustee’s Name: Jonathan Fleming
Introduction
My contributions to the charity have been limited this past year due to my ongoing BA Honours Degree in Photography. However, this educational path is expected to benefit the charity, particularly by 2025/26, significantly. This was a collaborative decision with the other trustees to enhance the charity's long-term capabilities, even though it temporarily reduced my output level. Below is a month-by-month summary of my activities.
Monthly Summary
April 2023 - May 2023
I was engaged in my BA Honours Degree in Photography, which limited my contributions to the charity. However, this academic pursuit is expected to benefit the charity.
June 2023
During my summer break from university, I manually updated the Charity Needs Foundation (CNF) website and listed charities. Additionally, I explored the development of an automated service that I have been considering for some time.
July 2023 - August 2023
I continued updating the Charity Needs Listings during these months.
September 2023 - December 2023
I resumed my BA Honours studies, so my focus remained on academic commitments.
January 2024
While continuing my BA Honours Photography course, I updated CNF’s website with new listings.
February 2024
In addition to my studies, I updated the listings on the CNF website.
March 2024 - April 2024
I was focused on my BA Honours Photography course, so I could not contribute to the charity during these months.
Trustee Year-End Report
My ongoing BA Honours Degree in Photography has undoubtedly limited my contributions to this year's charity. However, this was a strategic decision agreed upon with the other trustees, recognising that this temporary disruption would ultimately strengthen the charity's capacity in the coming years.
With two of us undertaking higher education, this was a calculated adjustment necessary for the charity's growth. As I continue my studies, I remain committed to the charity and look forward to applying my new skills to enhance its impact in 2025/26.
Closing Statement
I appreciate the support and understanding of my fellow trustees as I balance my academic commitments with my responsibilities to the charity. I remain dedicated to its mission and look forward to contributing more actively shortly.
Trustee Report — Hazel Arnold For the period 6th April 2023 - 5th April 2024
Trustee’s Name: Hazel Arnold
Introduction
This past year has been relatively quiet regarding my contributions to the charity due to personal commitments and family responsibilities. Despite this, I remain dedicated to the charity’s mission and look forward to engaging more actively. Below is a month-by-month summary of my activities and reflections throughout the reporting period.
Monthly Summary
April 2023 - December 2023
I have had no activity during these months.
January 2024
At the tail end of last year, my father underwent a serious operation, which required my presence back in the UK from mid-January until the end of the month to support my mother. Additionally, I dedicated time to improving my artistic skills and continuing my online teaching work. Due to these commitments, I have no activity this month.
February 2024
Upon returning to Spain, I brought my grandson with me, as he was experiencing challenges due to ADHD, which impacted his education. On a positive note, we worked on a digital notebook together, which he designed in alignment with his passion for football. The idea was for him to sell these notebooks, with the funds raised contributing towards a laptop to help him learn coding. We also considered extending this project to assist others if it proved successful. However, Oliver was unsure about sharing his story on social media, so I chose not to pursue it further out of respect for his feelings. This remains a potential project for the future.
March 2024 - April 2024
I have had no activity during these months.
Trustee Annual Report
This has been a quieter year regarding my involvement with the charity due to personal commitments, including family responsibilities and time dedicated to professional and educational development. Despite these challenges, I remain committed to the charity and its objectives.
While I have not been actively involved this year, my continued efforts to improve my skills and support my family will positively impact my ability to contribute. Once my circumstances stabilise, I look forward to resuming my engagement, particularly in areas where my artistic skills and teaching experience can be beneficial.
Closing Statement
I appreciate the understanding and support of my fellow trustees during this period. Looking ahead, I am eager to re-engage with the charity and contribute meaningfully to its growth and development.
Trustee Report — Andrea Arnold For the period 6th April 2023 - 5th April 2024
Trustee’s Name: Andrea Arnold
Introduction
This past year has been quiet regarding my direct contributions to the charity. My focus has largely been on my academic pursuits, as I have been working towards securing postgraduate opportunities. Despite my limited involvement, I remain committed to the charity’s objectives and look forward to integrating my knowledge and skills into future endeavours. Below is a month-by-month summary of my activities and reflections throughout the reporting period.
Monthly Summary
April 2023 - December 2023
I have had no activity during these months.
January 2024
There was no activity this month as I was focused on applying for postgraduate courses at various universities.
February 2024
Like January, my time was spent applying for postgraduate courses, leaving no room for charity-related activities.
March 2024
This month, I was responsible for looking after my son’s house and animals while his family was abroad, which occupied most of my time.
April 2024
There was no activity from me this month due to applying for funding for graduate courses and a Level 2 course in Environmental Studies.
Trustee Annual Report
Due to my commitment to a BA Honours degree, this has been a quiet year regarding my contributions to the charity. I received my results in July and passed with a 2:1 Honours Degree in Fine Art. I plan to continue my education by pursuing an MA, which will mean another two years of limited involvement with the charity. However, I firmly believe that the knowledge and skills I am gaining will significantly benefit the charity in the future.
My BA studies have already positively influenced my networking abilities, which are highly transferable to Charity Needs' objectives. As I progress in my academic journey, I look forward to applying these skills and insights to further the charity's mission when the time is right.
Closing Statement
I appreciate the understanding and support of my fellow trustees as I navigate my educational pursuits. I remain dedicated to the charity and look forward to actively contributing once my academic commitments allow.

commitments undertaken by two trustees—intended to benefit the charity in the long term—have hindered progress in this area. The postgraduate and graduate studies being pursued have also disrupted our efforts to bring our software applications into production. These applications are being developed to create sustainable revenue streams for CNF and any other registered voluntary organisation worldwide that chooses to utilise them.
