Charity Needs Foundation Annual Return and Trustee Report April 2020 — April 2021

The trustees of Charity Needs Foundation (CNF) are:

Jonathan Fleming — Founder Andrea Arnold & Hazel Arnold

Overview

During the financial year of April 2020 to April 2021 CNF continued it’s endeavour to promote, market and promote the voluntary sector by listing numerous organisations in our campaigns gallery found at charityneeds.com.

2020 started with virtually every organisation on the planet heading into a global pandemic known as COVID-19, its persistence through this period has caused major disruption to CNF’s mission and has closed off our ability to freely travel in pursuit of the charitable stories our followers are used to reading and coming to know.

The pandemic has also slowed our progress with the software application we are trying to build in order to generate sustainable revenue streams for CNF as well as any registered charitable organisation worldwide that would benefit from use of these applications.

We did manage to complete the articles we had already start at the beginning of the year, but by the end of of 2021 we were practically at a standstill and this standstill will have a knock on effect for delays over the next year or so

The articles we covered are in the reports of all the trustees, two of these articles are about an online charitable tournament that got children active during COVID-19 lockdowns and raised funds for two children charities. Another two were about engaging with the local community during lockdowns, one was in New York, USA, the other was in the UK.

Over in Thailand we wrote about a lockdown campaign that the Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand (WFFT) were running to raise funds that would feed their hundreds of animals for the coming months during the height of COVID.

We produced an article about a horse rescue centre in Spain which in turn spurned a new charitable organisation that extended this in Switzerland.

And a final article covered the ongoing saga of the Italian HorseProtection Association in Italy (IHP) who lost 19 horses in a short space of time after a huge uprooting move that left them having to move again just a year later. After receiving no answers to the causes of the horses deaths at the new premises, despite some highly acclaimed professionals volunteering their time on the case, IHP chose the very costly option of finding yet another new home for their 50+ horses left in their care.

We continue engaged in a few behind the scene tasks which come down to administrative work, the type of stuff the public does not see or perhaps care for, but it is a huge part of what we have to do to organise and structure features, promotions, our reporting and to provide the listings that we do.

Our campaigns gallery or listings continue to grow but this is now slowing because of having to deal with the fallout of COVID-19 lockdowns.

Trustee Report of Jonathan Fleming

for the reporting period 6th April 2020 - 5th April 2021

During the financial year of April 2020 to April 2021 the charity was doing very well with its listing on the website charityneeds.com and with promotions through social media of those organisations listed in the campaigns gallery as we call it.

Towards the end of 2019 the world was hit by COVID-19, lockdowns soon followed into 2020 and this is where things started to lose their momentum for CNF, much like most organisations around the world. Such will become very apparent in our next year's report of 2021-2022, as the lockdown caused nearly everything to grind to a halt, however, as this report covers the last financial year its release can be upto 9 months behind the current time of writing, however, we can already confirm that the fallout extends that downward turn for some time to come into the next reporting period of 2021-2022.

The main focus of CNF during this reporting period was to get software applications that we are working on into production, these are applications we are building in an attempt to create funding revenue streams. We remained focused on writing our articles and as ever continued doing our listing to promote registered voluntary sector organisations through our website at charityneeds.com. As mentioned, this flow became challenged when COVID-19 lockdowns took hold and it has set us back many months, if not, just over 1 year, without a shadow of doubt.

The articles that we did manage to cover were mostly written by Hazel Arnold and Andrea Arnold (these two trustees are not related, they simply have the same surnames), the primary editing task was performed by myself.

These articles are also linked in the reports of the other trustees, but they are listed here in brief for convenience:

Sorry we can’t bring a better report, but be prepared because it will be even worse in the next report of 2021-2022 due to the situation globally with COVID and the variants that continue to cause disruptions particularly with global movement through borders — as have many other, our ability to travel freely where we visit organisations on site to produce our articles has been curtailed.

Articles

An article about the fun fundraiser that the founder, Edwin Wiek, of Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand (WFFT), put on during the first COVID-19 lockdown to raise much needed funds to feed their 800+ animals for a few

months.

We tried to make this article humorous akin to it aligning with fake news. Not sure we did that well raising a laugh with it publicly. Internally it was loved by us and WFFT which was most important. Author: Jonathan Fleming

Trustee Report of Andrea Arnold

for the reporting period 6th April 2020 - 5th April 2021

Sarah McBrearty wanted to do something meaningful when her college went into shutdown. Her final results were going to be based on assessments so her final project was cancelled. So she organised a community art group after painting some pebbles which she gave to her neighbours - it turned out everyone else wanted something to do as well. They decided to make a pair of angel wings, with a feather each for all to make. Sarah put all the feathers together to make the wings and they were presented to local charity, The Chestnut Tree Children's Hospice. The Hospice was delighted with the gift and thought it was inspirational for the children. The local paper covered the presentation and published it in their paper and online. I suggested she might like to write an article for CNF, which she did, so I gave her some guidelines on how to set about it, edited the article for her and everyone was delighted with the result and the extra awareness for Chestnut Tree House.

I have written four articles supporting Well Child and Young Minds. These were to advertise and report two virtual kickboxing tournaments which were well received by the public and raised £2180.00 for the charities (£915.00 for Well Child and £1265.00 for Young Minds) and were greatly appreciated by the charities concerned.

I also spoke to Nimmh Lampshire about putting the SuperstarArts website on the gallery and shared with Jonathan which we have done. They make and sell products on their website and it may be that their products will also be sold on Gift One, Help One in the future but this is yet to be discussed.

Due to Covid which has affected the Charity quite badly our activities have been severely curtailed, even so, Jonathan has continued to make good progress with the website. So many events have had to be cancelled or postponed. Hopefully we can look forward to a more productive report next year

Below are links to the articles I wrote:

1. Wings

Released — 3rd July 2020

This was a community project, Brighton Community Arts, producing a piece of artwork that involved everyone. It was Sarah McBrearty’s idea to give people something to do during the first lockdown and she organised the project. Everyone involved created a single feather to make up a pair of angel’s wings. (there is a locally well known Angel statue on Brighton seafront). The finished artwork was presented to a local charity, Chestnut Tree House Children's Hospice. A local newspaper, The Argus, ran the story and they also published it online.

2. Virtual Kickboxing for Young Minds

Released — 29th January 2021

This event raised £1265.00 for Young Minds. http://charityneeds.com/feature/youngminds.org.uk/virtual-kickboxing-for-young-minds/

3. Virtual Kickboxing for WellChild

Released — 28th March 2021

This article supported WellChild through the second virtual kickboxing tournaments which raised £915.00 http://charityneeds.com/feature/wellchild.org.uk/virtual-kickboxing-for-wellchild/

Trustee Report of Hazel Arnold

for the reporting period 6th April 2020 - 5th April 2021

Continuing on from the end of last year’s report…

When the world was hit by a pandemic Italy was the first in Europe to be badly affected and went to a state of lockdown which was concerning for all. The IHP and the task force that were investigating the death of the horses fell apart. It was nearly the end of the centre but they have pulled back from that and now have a new vet that is heading up the investigations. The advice from Karyn Bischoff and the reports from IHP did take some time to come through and had patches where things seemed quiet and other times there was a flurry of activity. I also contacted Animal Poisons Australia ( animalpoisons.com.au), they were very helpful with information on Phalaris grass which has shown up to be present in the paddocks where the horses graze.

At CNF’s 2020 AGM I stated my intention is to have something ready by the end of January as this is when things are quiet for me. There is a lot of information to be included in the article and not something I could write up quickly.

SATS came back with a positive response although to this day we haven't moved any closer on doing an article. They were in the process of looking for a new public relations person. I'll return to this later.

Easy Horse Care Rescue ( http://www.easyhorsecare.net/) was happy for me to do a day of volunteering which I thoroughly enjoyed. The article has the account of my day included. However the pictures initially proved to be a problem again and I was lucky enough to be able to return and correct this twice more. One of the volunteers, a young girl from Switzerland, Jasmin Infield, has since gone back to her own country and set up a new charity called Easy Horse Care Switzerland. She aims to rehome some of the horses from Easy Horse Care Spain in her home country. This has been one the most difficult issues Sue and Rod Weeding have faced while running the centre in Spain as it's not been very successful in the past. So with Sue and Rods help along with Jasmin’s Mum,Christine Infed, they can work towards a rehoming program and has adopted one the horses she fell in love with herself to get the ball rolling (https://www.easyhorsecarerescueschweiz.com/ )

I have written an update on this and added the pictures and videos Jasmine has sent through, it now is in the hands of Jonathan and Andrea for editing.

When I visited the Easy Horse Care Rescue in Spain during my visits Sue mentioned that Rod's car was getting very old and they were in desperate need of an updated car big enough to pull the horses trailer. I felt I wanted to help and contacted all the car manufacturers that made cars suitable for the job. I didn't get a car as I planned but I'm glad I tried.

During this time I noticed a post on a social media group about a lady who wanted to start a Charity for Van Lifers (people who choose to live in their vans) who suffered from mental health. I made contact offering to help her through the process via Charity Needs, although she seemed very keen she hasn't come back to me.

I was also introduced by a friend who lives in Spain to other friends who is a trustee in England for the Charity Cotswold Cats and Dogs

I emailed Graham Edmonds suggesting as although i would be in the Uk between the current situation of covid and my limited time as it was a trip purely to see family it wouldn't be possible for me personally to visit but suggested one of the trustees or volunteers may wish to have a go at writing their own article. The idea was going to be put to the board at their AGM meeting at the end of November, I haven't heard anything as yet, I will do a follow up email in the New Year.

I would like to add a story I would like to write to help victims of crime charities although this is a long term project and may never come to fruition as the information I would need would have to be from Police officers that investigated a crime some years ago. It is about a murder of a woman who was killed by a stranger which is a a very rare occurrence. I would probably need permission to delve into it properly; this is something I will look into.

My closing action for this year and will probably carry over to next is to sort out the facebook issue of the donation button and the problems of being validated by facebook. To find out who they are regulated by.

In summary I feel I've done a fair bit this year, although I may not be as quick on some things, life is busy and distracting at times. Also it has been brought to my attention that I'm slow to get answers from various individuals when following a thread or story, this has been duly noted. I will work in the future to work in a more productive way although I believe my efforts and approach to other people works for me and has got results.
