2024 Chairman’s report

A warm welcome to the Mayor and Mayoress of Havant Borough, Peter and Janet Wade. Hampshire County Councillor Liz Fairhurst, and Members to the 9[th] Havant Men’s Shed AGM. It gives me great pleasure to pay our annual rent to the mayor.

I’d like to take few moments and dwell on some the highlights of the past 12 months, in no particular order. Following our raffle at our Christmas bash we were able to donate £245 to local foodbanks. We made some pattens (large wooden shoes) to enable the Hampshire wildlife trust to reintroduce sea grasses in the area.

Thanks to our resident chef Gary we have introduced twice weekly bacon butties. Phil has re-furbished two rocking horses. We had the second service of all the axminster tools – which was considerably less than the previous year. The engineer also gave some pointers regrading our dust extraction system, with this knowledge we were able to enhance our dust extraction system. I pleased to able to say that we are getting a steady stream of new members. Thanks to help from Hump’s brother we were able have the roof repaired. The mayor has kindly made the shed his nominated charity for the year. Thanks to work from the secretary we have been able to have a pitch at Tesco’s.

Unfortunately, we have also had some low lights in the year. One was being told by the council that they would not renew our lease. The second was, one of our erstwhile members, RAF Ron had passed away.

As with any AGM there are prodedural matters that need to be addressed:

The secretary Tony Tipping was co-opted onto the trustees committee. He will need to have ratified by the members One trustee has stood down for personal reasons

All management committee posts are standing for re-election
