## **Welcome 2023**

## **Havant Men’s Shed AGM**

Good afternoon one and all to this, the Annual General Meeting of the Havant Men’s Shed. I would like to extend an especially warm welcome to the worshipful Mayor of Havant, Rosy Raines, councillors, members and guests to this the 8[th] Annual General Meeting of the Havant Men’s Shed.

As is our tradition, we invite the mayor to step forward to accept a symbol of the peppercorn rent due.

Havant Men’s Shed have hand crafted a container into which peppercorns have been inserted as a reminder of our shed.

Apologies have been received from Keith Morley and Phil Hepplethwaite.

Agreement on the previous AGM minutes for 2022.

Before I go any further, I would like to take a moment to just mention and remember two of our members who have passed since our last AGM; David Austin and Keith Parker.

Once again, we must thank Hampshire County Council and Havant Borough Council, for the support shown throughout some rather difficult periods over the last 2 years.

We now move onto the election of officer’s and trustees: Chairman Leigh Watton - voted Secretary Tony Tipping - voted Safety Officer Ian Alvey - ratification

We are an inclusive organisation and strive to be as open as possible, and to that end we can now boast that we have, and would still, welcome lady members into the fold. We have also enrolled 10 new members this year.

We have continued our charitable work with Mind, helping to increase the wellbeing and

confidence of their members, we have achieved this with the help and friendship shown by our members to the members of Mind, who often turn up apprehensive and anxious as to what they may find. But I am pleased to say it is usually short lived and they settle in very quickly.

Bidbury and St Thomas More’s schools are a very big project for our members, whether it is building outdoor play kitchens or boot holders for the children’s Wellington boots. The members have always come up trumps with the children and teachers. I would like to add my own personal thanks to you all.

Next time you are in the Meridian Centre, take a look at the Falkland Islands remembrance bench, lovingly made by Tony Dale, congratulations to him.

With regard to the shed, the management committee in coordination with the trustees, have serviced all the Axminster machinery and will continue this on an annual basis. The shed has

had it’s trailer completely overhauled in the last few weeks and is now fully road worthy.

Having enrolled for the Waterlooville Show, we are now looking to take part in the Rowlands Castle Show next year as we were a little too late this year.

For me, this sadly, will be my last AGM as Chairman as I am standing down for personal reasons, which have no reflection on the shed or it’s members. I have to say it has been a great honour to have served this great organisation. I certainly feel that I am leaving the Chairmanship of Britain’s best shed in the safe and capable hands of your new Chairman and his committee, who will continue to serve you all well.

I now hand over to Martin Carr for the treasurer’s report followed by the membership report.

Questions and answers

That ends this Annual General Meeting and hope to see you all next year for the 9[th] AGM.
