## **Annual report 2024/2025** **Prepared by Sarah Hext-CEO** ## **Introduction and Overview** # **We are thrilled to share our annual report for 2024/2025.** In the face of a challenging economic landscape and continuous changes in the country, our organization has remained committed to assisting bereaved families in Bristol and beyond. We take pride in showcasing the impact and progress we have made throughout this report. In the year ending March 31, 2025, there were 3,492 deaths among children aged 0 to 17 in England, equating to an estimated rate of 28.7 deaths per 100,000 children. While some areas provide bereavement services and hospice care for ongoing support, others offer limited assistance. Unfortunately, sibling support is frequently overlooked due to financial constraints. At the Harvey Hext Trust, we offer personalized memory boxes to children who have lost a parent or sibling, allowing them to craft a personal narrative through photographs and images. These memory boxes honor the lives of the deceased child or parent, giving children a place to preserve their belongings and maintain a connection to their memories. Our memory bears enable children to carry a cherished item that belonged to their loved one, providing comfort and a sense of closeness. ## Distribution of Our Memory Boxes and Memory bears Our Memory Boxes are exclusively distributed through charities and bereavement services. This approach has proven effective in ensuring that families meet our criteria. We have partnered with several reputable charities, both locally and nationally, to provide Memory Boxes and bears to families in need. We continue to foster and maintain strong relationships with various organizations, both local and national. We frequently receive inquiries from new agencies interested in offering our services to their clients. We are dedicated to sustaining these relationships and look forward to establishing new partnerships in the year ahead. In September 2023, we were incredibly proud to unveil our latest initiative: Harveys Holdalls. These holdalls offer a compassionate way for parents to transport their child's belongings home after their passing. Traditionally, hospitals provide only plastic bags to grieving parents, and our goal was to enhance this experience. The response to Harveys Holdalls has far surpassed our expectations; since launching in September 2023, we have distributed over 400 bereavement holdalls. We foresee a steady demand for Harveys Holdalls as more hospital and hospice staff become aware of our service. Our holdalls are now filled with bereavement support items, including fingerprint kits, wooden hearts for caskets, as well as practical items like notebooks, pens, and tissues. ## **Increasing Awareness of Our Small Charity and Its Unique Services** Our small charity has been gaining traction through social media and word of mouth as we continue to promote our bespoke Memory box and Holdall services. To our knowledge, no other charity provides the type of service’s we share. **Expanding Our Services Across the Country.** We plan to expand our services to bereavement organisations across the nation and expect a busy2025/2026 **Financial Assistance for Bereaved Families** Like many charities, we've adapted our services, providing emergency grants totaling £1,800 to bereaved families. Local Support Thanks to the support of local businesses we have provided families with passes to four well-known fabulous family venues in Bristol. This allows families to spend some quality time together in the fresh air. The Wild Place -£302.40 Noah's Ark-£460.68 We the curious -PAYG Puxton Park -£700 We hope to offer Walk and talk coffee mornings for bereaved parents in the future, working with other bereavement services, this will enable us to build ourlocal familiy connections once more, enabling families to support each other **Fundraising Initiatives** We are thrilled to announce that The National Lottery has generously made another significant contribution to support our mission. **Commitment to Continuous Learning and Development** We are committed to expanding our knowledge and understanding. This year, we took part in training sessions to gain new skills and insights into challenging situations. Furthermore, we collaborated with bereavement services through focus groups to improve the effectiveness of these support services. ## **Contributing to Group Efforts in Support of Bereaved Families** The Harvey Hext Trust has joined forces with other Bristolbased charities and professional organizations to develop a database for bereaved families and professionals in the area. The goal is to connect these individuals with the right support as needed. We are proud to be part of this collaboration and convene with fellow members on a quarterly basis . ## **ObjectivesOver the past eight and a half years** , The Harvey Hext Trust has provided memory boxes to bereaved children nationwide. We aim to achieve the following outcomes for the families we work with: Supporting the whole family to improve children's emotional development Reducing social isolation and improving social andsupport networks Raising awareness about child bereavement and available support Enhancing care and services for families who have lost a child. Demonstrating the impact and value of The Harvey Hext Trust's services. Over time, we have seen a noticeable increase in the number of services that refer families to our charity. This is in line with the rise in demand for our services and the fact that we are now offering Memory boxes to children who have lost a parent, as evidenced by the growing number of families we work with. Our aim is to provide Memory Boxes to children while also offering ongoing support to bereaved families, included offering bereaved parents Harvey’s holdalls. We recognise to achieve our goals and services, we need to expand our team by hiring a full-time employee to manage dayto-day operations, plan events, fundraise, and manage Memory Box orders and other services offered by the charity. To date the charity has provided 828 bespoke high quality Memory boxes to bereaved children.
