Th8 organisation is a charitable company limited by guarantee. The company was established under a
Memorandum of Association which established the obj&cts and pow8r8 of the charitabl8 company and is governed
under its Articles of Association. In the event of the company being wound up, members are required to continue lo
contribute an amount not exceeding £1.
Racrultment. appolntment and tralnlng new trustèOS
Charity trustees for the purpose of charity law and under thc company's Articles are known as members of the
Management Committee. Undcr ihe requirements of tha Memorandum and Articles of Association tho members of
the Managamant Committae are elected for three years.
All mernbers of the Management Committee give thelr tim8 voluntarlly and receive no benefits from thg charity.
The Management Committee m88t on a bi-monthly basis and are respons5ble for the strategic direction and policy
of the charity.

Age Concern Tyneside South recognises that an effectlV8 board of trustees Is essential if the charity 18 to be
effective in achieving its objects. Th8 board must seek to be representative of the peopla with whom th8 charity
works and must have available to It, all of the knowledge and skills required to run tha charity. Individual trustees
musl have sufficient knowledge. both of trusteeship in general and of the Gharity's activitles, Io enable them to carry
out their role and to represent the charrty at meetlngs and other events.
The Chief Officer and Chair of Trustees are responsible for the ensuring that the induction proce58 is arranged and
complet8d.
A tT8ining programme is in place to ensure th8t any newly appolnted trustee will receive training on all matters
necessary to enabl8 them to perform their dut185 effectively. This will be tailored to their specific n88ds but, unless
the appointee is already sufficiently exp8rienc8d, should cover as a minimum:. govemance and managem8nt'
equal opportunlties. a thorough induction to the history and current activlties of the organisation. suffici8nt
explanation of th8 charltles financial aGcounts and reporting procedures to enabla th8m to exercise fiscal oversight.
Explanation of all charity policies includes those relating to truslee expenses and how they can be claim8d. If a new
trustee is to taka on any specific dulles, all needs in relation to this will be assessed. It is acknowledged Ihat
trustees have a wide range of other commitments and every effort will be made to make this training accessible to
the individual by arranging it to be conducted at time5 convenient to them.
Organlsatlonal structure and declsloD making
A line management systom is in place with day-to-day responsibility for the managernent of the organisation resting
with th& Chief officer. The Chi8f Officer is responsible for ensuring that the charity delivars the services specified
and that key perfomance indicalors are met. Day-to-day op8ration management is headed by indivldual team
members using the reporting structures and lin@ management lo finally report to the Chlef Officer and Trustees.
Pay policy for senior staff
The Chief Officer implements the pay policy on an ongoing basis and is responsible for pay review and setting
salarie5 for senior staff. The Board reviews the Chief Officerfs salary annually and is responsible for making any
decisions about remuneration of the Chief Officer.

The aims of our services, for older people continue to be ageing well, reducing social isolation, maximising income,

The trustees ara satisfied that in accordance with the Charity Commission guidelines, Age Concem Tyneside South
meet the public benefit requirements. Th8 trustees have regard to Ihis guidance when exercising any powers or
duties to which the guidance is relevant.

The aim is to diversify our income streams, to includa charitable trust granls, statulory seclor contracts, Services we
make a charse for, developing community fundraising and developing a range of paid for services. this has been
more difficult post-pand8mic, but remains a key objective.

We retained our Local Authority contracts for FY 2022-2025. W8 hav8 continued to SLJccessfiJlly delivor
our services as funded by charitable trusts.
We increased our Integrated Car8 Board Contracts in FY 2022-25based on our staffs excellent delivery.
We have continued to deliver on a 3+2 y8ar contract to deliver dementia day care opportunities.
We aim to maintsln and where appropriate grow a more commercial approach alongside our charitable
service delivery.
We have added Adult Carers Contract Starting in April 2024 as a 3+2 contract too
We continue to meet older persons needs by focusing on person-centred activitios and involving older
people in the design of our seNices.
Innovatlng and improving
W8 have continued to identify opportunities to work across a wider rang8 of services to this end we have
added a pre diagnosis Dementia Offer to our Contracted offer.
W8 have successfully mainiain8d Ag8 Conc8rn Tyn8side South in its 8th year, wllh Increased numbers of
people helped, slaff and volunteer increases too.
W8 have conlinued lo use the holistic assessment tool with the majority of clients addlng In addltlonal
information and options as funding is obtainad.
We have increased the number and qu81ity of grant applications lo meet locally identrfied people's need.

Delivering a range of hlgh-quallty person-centred servlces and soclal enterprfs8S
The aims of our services for older peop18 continu8 to be r8ducing social isolation, maximising income.
enabllng Independent living, and promoting health and emotional wellbeing.
Our Information and Advice servicc provided contact lo help 5750+ older people with queries or casework
in benefits, housing care and local services, including additional awards of benefits, grants and
entitlements totalling £5,8 million for local people spent locally often within the South Tyneside economy.
We provlded 3850+ social opportunities during the period through our community-based provislon all in an
inclusiva way. These seNices offer a varfety of actlvilies that tackle social Isol8tlon and loneliness to
improve the wellbeing of the service users. We have built back to pre-pandemic levels.
Our exercise classes, leisur8 and leamlng activity groups were attended by 12000+ people , supporiing
attendees to remain physically actlV8 to improve their health long term.
We provided advocacy support hours of 241 during th8 year.
Our Integrated Service and additional Winter Pr8ssures increased to provid8 48.521 CDnlacls lo help
16,241 poople. We provided 2,582 falls prevention hom8 assas sments and install8d 4,981 aids and
adaptations a5 well as removing 241 hazards in homes of older peop5e in the borough. Wa also supported
6.105 peopl8 upon discharge from hospilal, completing 3,403 activity visits to specifically prevent an
admissionlre-admission to hospital.
164 volunteers supported our organisation providlng 11000+ added value hours. the equivalent of 6.5 fijll
time members of slaff @ 35 hours per week
We delivered 750+ Christmas hampersl Shoe boxes which was funded by the Barbour Foundation and added to by
olher donations e,g. (, EE, Sky Karbon Homes...).

Involving influencing and promoting social inclusion:
We continue to work with wlder stakehold8rs Including the ICB , Local Authority, Public Health and key partners in
the Voluntary and Community sector.
We provide a consultation platfomi utilised by the Local Gov8rnment and ICB in obtaining the views of older
people in the borough.
We have actively contributed to the main ongagement mechanisms established by the Statutory Sector - at which
we are able to influence local policy and decision making.
We have become Part of a Partnership with senseabilty Matters and Tyne and Wear Mus8ums, Cultural Spring
Mental Health Concern and Your Volce Counts working Sn a place- based way around buildlng community
resilience.

A glance at the Stst8ment of Financial Activitigs indicates an annual Income of £1,852,600 {2023:£1.918,307) hag
been generat@d during the period; thls reduction Is predominantly due to a d8crease in the Sncome from Charllabla
Activities of £15,731 (now £1.412,655) and a decreas8 of £45,716 from Donations, Grants and Legacies, now
£426,653. The legaGies contribution itself decreased from approxlmately £61.000 to £10,000.
Th8 Statemant of Financlal Activities Shows an overall deficit of £197,481 (2023.. £87,826, surplus). The Gost of
expenditure on Charitable Activities incraas8d by £219,600. The wages bill accounte(J for approximately £150,000
of this, including an increase In the mlnimum wage and gen6raS Inflalionary costs rmaking up the balance. We hav8
also initiated a provision for Bad Debts of £16,205 as the result of an accumulation of small debts acquired over
several years. The organisation is continulng to establish IlseSf in its eighth year as a new charity within th8
Borough of South Tyneside. Considering the challenges faced by all new charilies accessing funding streams, the
tumover continues to maintain a steady level, with this year resulting in a 3.4% decroa5e in income.
The average headcount over the financial year was 87 with a final headcounl of 99 staff.
A continuing cost review with a programme of achievable reduction is now in place for ihe financial year 2023-24
across the whole organisation, with a regular review of Senior Managemènt Team costs.

ended 31 August 2024 which comprise the Statement of Financial Activities, the Balance Sheet, the Statement of
Cash Flows and notes to the financial statements, including a summary of significant accounting policies. The
financial reporting framework that has been applied in their preparation is applicable law and United Kingdom
AGcounting Standards, including Financial Reporting Standard 102 The Financial Reporbng St8ndard applicabl8 In
the UK and Republic of Ireland (Uniled Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting PraGtice}.

1.2 Golng concern
The flnanclal statements have been prepared on a going concern basis. The Irustees have reviewed and
considerad relevant Information, including the annual budgets in making their assessment. Based on these
asscssments, the increased level of demand for the services and the additional funding available the trustees
have conGluded that they can continue to adopt the going concern basis in preparin9 the annual report and
accounts.
1.3 Fund accountlng
Unrestricted funds can be used In accordance with the charitable objectives al the discretion of the trustees.
Designated funds comprise unrestricted funds that have been set aside by the trustees for particular purposes.
The airn and use of each designated fund is set out in the notes to the financial statemcnls.
Restricted funds can only be used for particular restrlcted purposes specified by the donor or when funds are
raised for particular restricted purposes. Further explanation of the nature and purpose of each fund is included
in th8 notes to the financial slat8ments.

Tangible f￿8d assets are stated at cost (or deemed cost) or valuation less accumulated depreciation and

amortised cost using the effective interesl method.

sources. The estimates and associated assumptions are based on historical experience and other fadors that
are considered to be relevant. Actual results may differ from these estimates.
The estimates and underlying assumptions are reviewed on an ongoing basis. Revisions to accounting
estimates 8r8 recognised in the period in which the estimate is revised where the revision affect5 only that
period, or in thg period of the revision and future perlods whera th8 rgvision affects both CU￿ent and future
