Each hour that the library is<br>staffed by a member of staff paid by Kirklees<br>MBC is matched by a volunteer.  Volunteers<br>participate in issuing and return of books,<br>answering queries from library users,<br>reading to children and other day to day<br>library activities.  Volunteers also contribute<br>to the recruitment and co-ordination of other<br>volunteers.  In addition, all the activities of<br>FOML are provided by volunteers,  this<br>includes organising and staffing events and<br>managing the website and social media to<br>promote library use.<br>On 9 October 2024 we hosted a volunteer<br>information event|

|Achievements against<br>objectives set|Para 1.41|During this year we were able to promote the<br>library to people attending 7 writers’ events.<br>This included FOML hosting Simon Armitage<br>who gave 2 performances, on the L-M<br>section of his library tour and another<br>collaborative event with the Huddersfield<br>Literature Festival.  Our events were<br>attended by c300 people.<br>We worked with other Friends of Groups in<br>Kirklees to successfully persuade the<br>Council to withdraw their proposals to shift 8<br>libraries (including ours) from a community<br>supported model to a community managed<br>model.  As part of our campaign, we advised<br>the local community about the potential<br>negative impact of the proposals that<br>included withdrawing our library from<br>statutory provision.  We provided information<br>to local people and to our local elected<br>council members and the Member of<br>Parliament.|
