Organisation
Equalities Work is registered as charitable incorporated organisation (CIO) number 1168738. The object of
the CIO is the promotion of equality and diversily for the public benefit by:
(A) Advancing education and raising awareness of equality and diversity.
(B) Promoting activities to foster understanding between people from diverse backgrounds.
Principal Activities
Equalities Work has been established to make the most of the opportunities presented by the creation of the
Foundry in Vauxhdll, south London. This has brought tO&FCther some of London's inost progressive human
rights and social justice organisations under one roof. A key objective is to engage the public with education
and arts focused projects as well as talks, film nights and a range of other events. We do this by working
closely with campaigning, advocacy, education, advice and arts organisations.
Over the year, Equalities Work took fonvard innovative projects including Rights, Camera, Action! This
visual arts project engages young people in Lambeth 1( boiit human rights isbucs and providcs roiitcs iiito the
creative scctor. Our 'ln The Mix, project includes workshops designed to promote access and participation
to the visual arts for disabled peoplc livin&7 in south London. It combines arts workshops, Inentoring and
seminars designed to break down the barriers to inclusion for disabled artists. Equalities Work funded the
Radical Film School which is designed to encourage social justice filmmaking. The school provided free
training in film direction for 16 residents who were all Londoners from under-represented backgrounds in
the film industry including those on low incomes and people of colour.
We also continued to provide essential capacity building for local voluntary groups with support around
fundraising and business planning. In recent years Equalilies Work has worked closely with Block336 - a
creative space in Brixton located in the largest disability hub in London. Over the 12 months we have
supported the charity through a major transition which has involved the recruitment of a new Board of
Trustees and funding bids.
Our exhibitions programme over the year included a collaboration with Transforn] Trade and another with
local artist ALyata Nowak called 'Rough Sleeping- A Lifestyle Choice, An exhibition of works produced by
local young people called 'Selfhood' was created through a partnership with Ncon Pcrfonning Arts. All our
cxhibitions include workshops and events cngaging schools and thc general public to discuss thc issucs raised.
Our work is sUPPOrted by a core grant from the Social Justice and Human Rights Centre and grants from
trusts including the City Bridge Foundation.
