GovernanGe and management
The charity is operated under the rules of its CIO conslitution adopted 10 August 2016.
Hackney Tree people is govemed by its Board of Trustees. There are currently six
trustees, board meetings take place approximately every 12 weeks. New Trustees are
recruited from being voluntaèrs Ihey are proposed and seconded by existing Trustees.
In accordance with the constitution ￿lch states that at the annual general meeting of
the members of the CIO one third of the chaiity trustees shall retire from offic£. the
longest serving trustees may resign but have the option to show their willingness to
continue with their duties and may be re-elected.
Membership of the CIO is open lo anyone who is interested in furthering its purposes
and who, by applying for membership, has indicated their agreement to become a
member and acceptance of the duty of members. Only individuals are eligible to be
members of the chaiity.
Objactives and activities
1) For the public benefil, to promote improvement of the physical and natural
environment, and public health, in particular but not exclusively by the growing, care
and conservation of trees, and other activities ralated to trees. mainly but not
exclusively in the London Borough of Hackney;
2) The advancement of education of the public in the conservation. protection and
improvement of the physical and natural environment, mainly but not exGlusively in
the London Borough of Hackney, in particular but not exclusively by the provision of
workshops on woodland management and Iree GOPPiGing and felling.

Summary of tho main activities undertakon for the public benefit
Within the year HTP organised multiple community tree planting sessions including the
planting of six mini forests over two days in winter. HTP continues to maintain
previously planted trees wlthln the Hackney area and grow elm trees for the London
Elm8 Project %thich aims to re-plant elms across the Capital by using disease resistant
clones.
An ambitK)us propagation project was set up, graftlng workshops pr(xJuGed new apple
trees and a programme of winter orchard pruning was undertaken in parks with local
volunteers.
Publlc benefit ststèment
The Trustees confinn that they have complied with the duty in section 17 of the
Charities Act 2011 to have due regard to the Charity Commission's general guidancE
on publiG benefit. 'Charities and Public Benefit,.
Summary of the main achievements during the period
HTP continue to upgrade and improve the tree nursery. Wilh the help of a grant, Frrp
installed a new automatic irrigation system which will free up volunteers to do other
tasks, provide consistent watering and save water. HTP are progressing discussions
with The London Borough of Hackney to develop new facilities at the nursery.
Financlal revlew
As can be seen below, The HTP have had a good year with plenty of activity. A large
school project saw the income and expenditure lo be increased as did the start of the
irrigation proiecL

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of Hackney Tree People (the
charity) for the year ended 31 March 2024.
R•8ponsibilities and basls of r•port
As the trustees of the charity you are responsible for Ihe preparation of the accounts in
accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 ('the Act,).
I report in respecl of my examlnaiknn of the charfty's accounts carried out under seGtio
146 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examinalion I hava followed all the
applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the
Act.
Independent examlner's statement
I have completed my examination. l 12)nflnn that no matters have come to my attention
in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any matgrial
respect:
i. accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section
130 of the Act: or
2. the accx)unts do not accx)rd with those records.
I have no concems and have come across no olher matters in connection with the
examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enabl8 a
proper und8rstanding of the accnunts to be reached.
