Vivian Park Bowls Association.

Report of Trustees, Year Ending 30[th] April, 2021.

The onset of the Covid 19 Pandemic severely impacted upon our operation as a bowls association. Along with the rest of the UK, we were restricted by legislation, ceasing to function. There was no participation in either league matches or competitions within West Glamorgan or Wales as a whole. We were, however, able to undertake the essential maintenance works to both sustain and improve the bowling green surfaces whilst ensuring we observed all social distancing requirements during these operations. Our volunteer team operated on a rota basis to complete all works.

We received no income from our membership due to the nature of the social isolation requirements, but received a grant in the form of a Small Business Relief from Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council. The expenditure possible from this grant was directed at the recovery process required on the greens following the dry summers experienced in previous years, plus expenses incurred in fuel for machinery and spare parts. We were able to level our North green, correcting a long standing issue with “run off” of bowls during competition.

We now look forward to a return to bowling, albeit with a reduced numerical and social function.

Our Aims.

Simply to restore our operations towards normal as can be achieved with reducing restrictions in social mixing. This will be undertaken in a safe manner, putting the well being of our membership and local community at the very top of our concerns. Procedures for access to the pavilion toilets, observing social distancing, hand sanitizer usage, provision of separate equipment for both participating team on each rink will ensure transfer of the virus will be minimalised towards zero.

Review of Activities and Achievements.

The pandemic prevented any activity other than the agreed maintenance activities on the green.

We endeavoured to maintain contact with our membership via website/phone as best as possible to ensure no one suffered exceptional isolation issues during lockdowns. Surprising what a short telephone chat can achieve towards this goal.
