Achievements and Performance
2019 was the year none of us could have imagined and it challenged Not Home Alone in a number of ways. Our Easter event was cancelled due to the increased risk for our guests due to COVID-19, and shortly afterwards we made the decision the country was put into its first national lockdown in March.
At Easter we sent cards to all our guests, saying how we missed them and looked forward to restrictions easing so we could once again meet. Unfortunately, this didn’t happen and shortly afterwards the country was put into its first national lockdown in March.
We rang around all our volunteers to see if any of them would like a weekly telephone call, and as most were considered as shielding, we also started shopping for the few that were unable to get a delivery from the supermarkets. The charity paid for this shopping for the first few weeks until we worked a safe way to accept money, and for some who were confused and scared due to COVID we carried on to pay for their shopping. Many thanks must go to the volunteers who started and are still calling guests and especially to Guy Bryant and Tescos for allowing us early entry in to the supermarket to be able to shop and then deliver the groceries to our guests.
Throughout the year we sent a number of cards to try and put a smile on our guests face's and continued calling those who wanted a call as the country bounced in and out of lockdown. We stopped doing the grocery shops after the first lock down was eased as the supermarkets and local shops managed to support those shielding with deliveries.
When Christmas was approaching and Tiers were still in place with another lock down imminent it was decided to source a hamper and a company that would be able to deliver a hot meal and pudding to those guests that would like it on Christmas Day. Thank you to Lisa Billard for getting quotes and sourcing both suppliers. It was agreed that The Little Tea Pot (Laceby) would organise the hampers sourcing local produce and in turn helping other local businesses and Fresh Start (Grimsby) would supply the hot meals. Volunteer drivers would be needed on Christmas Day to help deliver to those guests that needed a little extra support. Thank you to Pete, Jacqui, Bridgette, Terry Rinski and Gareth for supporting. All the guests we saw were so happy to see us and receive a dinner. Wendy received a number of really positive thank you phone calls and notes, as did I.
After an appeal earlier in the year we received some great new volunteers, who have helped make a real difference in such a difficult year.
Financial Overview
A deficit of £4,192 has been generated in the year. Reserves of at least three month's fixed expenditure are held to cover any unforeseen costs. Current reserves of £15,689 are currently held, which exceeds the policy.
Structure, Governance and Management
The charity registered as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation on 9th August 2016 and is governed by its articles.
Method to Recruit Trustees
Trustees have been approached where it is believed they have the skills that can support the charitable objectives. We therefore have a Trustee from the business sector and a Trustee from the nursing sector. Trustees are sought when it is necessary to fill any skills gaps.
