Trustees’ Annual Report

Objectives and activities

The charity was established for the public benefit to advance education; to advance culture and heritage; and to promote racial harmony, in particular by:

d) Nurturing Polish culture, traditions and values.

Nothing in the constitution allows an application of the property of the charity for purposes which are not charitable.

The trustees have complied with the duty in the Charities Act 2011 to have due regard to public benefit guidance published by the Charity Commission.

Achievements and performance

The period, which was sixth operational year, was still under great influence of the Covid19 pandemic, especially between April and June 2021 when we still have had online classes only.

Number of pupils as well as attendances increased when school started classroom education again in October 2021. For academic year 2021-2022 we have signed up 90 pupils in total. Schools seems to be operating normally since then. In November 2021 we organized first since the beginning of the pandemic partially open event where all parents and local authorities have been invited to celebrate Polish Independence Day. This proven to be great success and encourage school to prepare more open performances in the future. School also organized Santa Clause day for all children in the school and also remote online activities like tombola and auction for general public. This also went well. At the beginning of 2022 School started preparation for main annual event – Polish Heritage Day which will be fully open to general public and will take place in May 2022.

In addition to the normal classes where education of Polish language, history, geography and culture has been delivered, we reintroduced meeting with 'interesting people' This meeting proven to be great success in previous years. This time children had opportunity to meet with vets.

Financial review

During the period income received from attendance at the school, grants and other events was £20216 and expenditure £18324. This created surplus of £1892. This is mainly because school returned to classroom education and increase in number of pupils. This looks promising but there were still online classes for April, May and June 2021 which took teachers costs down. Also next year school anticipate operational cost to increase due to inflation. Therefore this surplus may be mitigated in the next financial year. The bank and cash balance brought forward on 31 March 2022 was £16129. This fund still should secure school operation for a year ahead. The restricted fund were Grant from Polish Consulate in Manchester to help cover cost of organization of Polish Heritage Day and also grant from 'Wspolnota Polska, which subsidise classroom rental. This grant needed to be partially returned as was overpaid by Wspolnota. This happened because number of pupils on which it was based has been provided before the pandemic.

School also has opened savings account which currently has a balance of £10001. This is to keep extra funds separate from the current operational account and also to generate some interest.
