The Trustees are elected at the AGM for a three year term and may serve for up to three consecutive terms.
REVIEW OF ACTIVITIES AND FINANCIAL RESULTS This season's concert programme delivered our customary wide range of musical styles and periods, from the high Baroque of Handel's Messiah through various 20 th.century composers and incorporating both sacred, secuiar, serious and popular repertoire.
October 2023 Our October concert this season wes ‘ Autumn Inspirations’ featuring the 21 st.century trend for reimagining existing works and providing the opoortunity for us to present in performance some of the works we had explored in the previous season's workshop with Sonoro The recertoire included 2 focus on some female composers and we were very pleased to welcome one of them, Cecilie McDowellto hear us perform her ‘Crucis reimagined’Durufie's Requiem was the best known of the early20 th.century French music which was the other feature of this concer. December 2023 This season we presented just one carol concert with our tradtional blend of familiar and less well known carols along with one of Martin Bussey’s coouler arrangements - this time “ Santa Claus is coming to town “Festive refreshments following the concert enabled the chos and audience to enjoy each other's company. January 2024 Our January workshop is a well-established annual event which this year focussed on Poulenc’s Gloria. Our workshops enable other singers to experience a major work from the choral repertoire while raising funds to support our wider programme of concerts. As usuai, the workshop was very well received, and conciuded with an informal performance of the work, attended by a small audience. March 2024 We aim fo feature a concert with orchestra each season, but this year we partnered with the Chester Philharmonic Orchestra and Cantiones Choir from Oswestry to perform Elgar's ' Dream of Gerontius ‘a work requiring much larger forces than CBS alone. Supported by three excellent scloists, the performance in Chester Cathedral was well attended and drew enthusiastic acclaim from audience members. April 2024 Given a rather long gap between the March and June concerts,we performed ' Handel's Messiah’ in St.Werburgh's Church, with sectionsorgan accompaniment. omitting mainlyThisthe work Christmas is rarelynurnbers. performedThisin enabled full.and us ourto performance perform some thisof time the less focussed well known on the choruses, second andWe thirdalso took the opportunity to showcase many of our own talented members rather than bringing in professional soloists. June 2024
The next and jast in our series of ‘decades’ this concert featured music of the 1950s and challenged the choir to master styles as diverse as a choral arrangement of several movernents from West Side Story and unaccompanied part songs by Vaughan Williams, ireiand and Martin Bussey.
Financiat results The Trustees are pleased to report that audience numbers have been at least at the levels we anticipated, and usually slightly higher. We undertook some paid carol singing and the sharing of costs in performing the March concert, together with ticket sales and other income have combined to leave us with reserves £ 6907 higher than last year.
; |
The Trustees will alse be focussing on the recruitment of a new Musical Director,as Martin Bussey has announced his retirement in March 2025,
Members’ subscriptions were increased to £ 175 per annum,by resolution of members at the AGM. Over the year, therefore, the choir achieved a net surplus of £ £ 6907.We therefore start 2024/2025 2024/2025 with reserves well preferred minimum. This gives the the Trustees the confidence to confidence to to plan a performance of Bach's Mass in B B minor in well as a full season's programmie of concerts, concerts, RESERVES The cash reserves amount to £ 17498 (2023 £ 10591) and surplus funds are invested in two interest-bearing bank accounts. The Trustees consider that these reserves are necessary to fund the Charity’s activities in the forthcoming
