Annual Report 2023
Day to Day Management of TYCP
Trustee.. Rev. Bridget Woodall
2023 has been a year full of fun and lots of activities, we have said a few goodbyes to familie8
who have moved away and y￿1cOmed many new families, we have reshaped 8nd relaunched
groups to keep the children and families work fresh and relevant and responding to the
challenges faced by the families we support,
2023 has been a year when everyone has felt the cost of living rise at a fast rate putting strain
on everyone but seen very keenly by many of our families. We have worked with other
organisations and thanks to our generous funders have been able to make food a stronger
feature within groups. Many children come into groups hungry after a day at school so we
usually start with a bowl of cereal and end with some healthy snacks and a drink at the end.
Each holiday has contained lots of food orientated groups, either with pack ups for trips or tasty
snacks in the open gardens or a hot meal during the winter months.
2023 saw the end of Messy Mondays and Tots Praise. The 2 groups were jo5ned and became
Stsy & Play. For the first time we mixed the whole family Into one group so parents and children
could have some fun together. This has really gone well; most parents stay rather than dropping
their child off. We have asked that under 5's have a parent with them, but also encouraged all
parents to stay and play board games, take part in the craft activities, generally enjoy some fun
together.
2023 saw KoolKidz finish. It was cbear that many young people across TYCP were very keen to
play sport. We received funding to encourage families to engage in sport or increase their
physical activity, so Let's Get Active was stsrted in November. With the help of a sports coach
the group is encouraged to try different ways to be more active.
Football was very popular but boxing is now a regular favourite 80 the vlorkers and families are
working to broaden the range of actNities over the coming months.
2023 saw Eleanor one of the Youth sessional workers move away. Bex came as a voluntser at
the stsrt of the year and by the end of the year was a sessional on the youth team. Thanks to all
the staff and volunteers who work so hard to make TYCP a fun and safe place to be.

Chlldren (4 Famllla and youth
Stay and Play
Stsy and Play started in June. We
wanted to provide a space for under
5's to come with their parents and
over 5's to stay and parents again
We￿ allowed to stay.
We have board games such as
Snakes and Ladde￿, Guess Who.
Connect 4, we also have the dressing
up box out and we have crafts. It's
been great seeing families staying
and playing together. & bonding over
a board game.
We R Famlly Parent and Toddlorn
We R Famlly conllnue8 10 grow and we aro consistently getting 10-11 chlFdfen each week and 12-15 paronts.
What we have really loved th1$ year is that parents are now
telling other parents about the group, whlch means 2 or 3
famllles have come through word of mouth.
We put In a new bld from Blg
Local tt) allow We R Family lo
¢onlinue which was approved
and includes a vlsit from
Hayley our singer who leads
us in music and movement.
Some of our toddlers have
grown up and now com8 to
Stsy and Play which is a great
transition from toddlers into
the bigger groups.

CHILDREN AND YOUTH ACTIVITIES
Open Garde
Throughout the summer we held 2 open gardens a week to provide spxe for
parertls and chlldren lo come and play games and enloy company.
We provided a hot meal and had a sports
coach come, as well as getting board
games and crafts out.
One out of the tsvo days was athys
more popular however the open gardens
proved popular, al￿ we were able to
connect with families.
During the October half temi, w8 had an
open garden where families also made
Christmas pudding which was great fun,
we then stéamed them here for the
familK8S lo makè easier lo eat at homè.
Summer Dlno Park
In the Summef Holidays we look a trlp to the Din¢)saur Park whlch is lust up the road
but a day out no less. We took the swing ball sot, bats and balls, fcrt)tball and goals
and paper and paints.
On8 of the good things about the Teessaurus Park
is there is so much green space and so after a walk
around the various Dinosaurs we spent tsme 8s a big
family, playing football, badminton. some families sal
and painted. We had a great lime. and the weather
was great which made a huge difference.

CHILDREN AND YOUTH ACTIVITIE8
Our first session of the year was a trip to $88 the Minstrel's perfomian¢e of Ali Baba. The young peopl8 had a
fantasb'c time and all, but one joined the cast on Stage for a sing along. For many it was thoir fifst b'me al a panto
8nd enjoyed being able to interact with the ¢ast during the p8rfoman¢e.
Our youth sessions have largely run as normal however we have had a huge
growth in numbers, parti¢ularfy from the Nigerian side of Noth Omesby. We
have also had several young people from the children's sessions moving up to
the youth sessions. This transition has boèn SUC￿$s1U1, and Iha younger
youth have settled in well.
Our numbers have nsen from an
average of 10 per night to an average of
20-25 per session. The rise in numbers
has been fanta$lic for the youth session,
as well as challenges bul as a team we
have grown and been able to develop
our provision. In the cooking sesstons
we have been using the stoves more
and allowing the youth to cook meals
that they'd be able to r￿reate at home
We also bought a large amount of laser
guns which have been requested in
every sesslon. The laser tag has been a
great tool to gel friendship 9roups mixing with one another. The acts'vity has
al80 allowed young people to don't engage wllh Sports a8 much lo partake In
physical aclivSlles.
The oldor youth hav& also begun to help lead the games and help th8 younger ones Set up their equipment. Wlth
the average age of youth decreasing, th8 old8r youth have begun lo tak8 on mor8 leadership roles and some have
even been asklng about volunteers and mentioning a desire lo become wJsional workers.
In September Eleanor left us and went off to university. Eleanor has been a massive part of the youth team, and It
was amazing seeing her grow in confidence and skills. Eleano¢s departure has baen noticed by tho youth and they
regularty ask how she is.
We gained our first sessional volunteer in 2023 as Robecca Lee began to volunteer at Trinity. Having a new
volunteer was fanlastsc and was helpful when numbers increased. Bex was hired as a sessional after Eleanor's
departure and has fil into the role extremely well. Just like Eleanor, Bex's confidence and skills have massively
grown throughout the year, and she is a vital part of the team. The youth team 13 back lo full strength after Eleanor
left and Evie & eex are a vital part of rycp and deserve a lot of recognition for their support throughout the year.
We went on several trips with the youth this year. We went to Hollywood bowl, Jump360 and Level X. Ourlng
summer we look trips lo the local park and as always. ended up with a larger group of youth than we18ft with as
fn'ends of the youth always join u8 and leam about the services we providel The trips are always a lot of fun and the
youth ahvays enjoy them.
Let's Cook
Throughout the year Let's Cook's participants have massivety improved their
overall skills when it comes to cooking and communicating. We have been
able lo start using stoves in the session due lo this improvernent and thes8
sessions have gone well.
Families have been Coming constsntly and most of the sessions are full.
Children in thè sessions have started lo take on more ￿SponSibl111￿ such as
handing out equipmènt and helping lo wash up. The parent's that wash their
tables after cooking are always a massive help and shows a level of
appraciation for the work. we do each week.
As the year progresses, our recipes have increased in complexty, something
that the families have enjoyed and are able to keep up with. Some sessKJns
have been used to create f(h)d for the community events we have been
running.
Recipes this year have included - Pvzza. Scones, Bread and Cinder toffee.

CHILDREN AND YOUTH ACTMTIES
Kool Kld8
In 2023 we r8n Kool Kids until the September temi Whe￿ we
li￿d the se$$ton. The session ran well throughout the year and
took on a more free-flowing play style to fit towards the in¢￿aSed
number of children attending and the demand of the children.
This style of session was more demanding on staff but worked well
for the children. This allowed them to be more active in session.
During summer we were able lo use the outdoor space and Ouf
young volunteer Oscar was a great help and leads the children in
games of football. Oscar is great when it comes to working directly
with the children and ￿ well liked by them. In September. we
decided to reliTe tha Kool Klds and bring about "Levs Get Activ&"
sessions in its place.
Let's Get Aetlve
In November we started a new project on a Thursday called
'Lel's Get Actsve" This prole¢t is fvnded by you've got thls and
aims lo provlde health and filness activities for not just young
people, bul also Ihelr parents. The aims of Ihis project were lo
target attracting new attendees and focusing on Improving the
fitness of thos8 who aren't currenly aob've. The project Involves
an hour of fitne8s run by Live it and Gel Active.
We are getting high numbers of young people and many of
these young people have been new lo TYCP and have corne
from schools we don't engage with as much. The children in the
sesslon a￿ all engaglng with the activities and Seem to be
enloylng Ihem
The biggest struggle we have currently is gettlng the parents tt)
stay in the session and get Involved wlth the young people. Whilst we have had examples of parents gett￿ng
Involved, largely the number of parents not 8laylng or lust sittlng on their phones is an igsue we are alming lo
address in 2024. The sessions have been Ove￿11 a success so far and a change in our provisions was needed and
this has helped readjust our alms lo better frt the current group of children wè work with.
This year we had our annual community events. This included our Pancake
party, Good Friday Workshop, Coronation party, Summèr Party, Christmas
pudding workshops, Christmas Movie Night and Chrlstmas Paty. These events
were very 8ucces$ful in tems of
numbers and engagement bul are very
hard days for the workers in th8 event
especially when seNing up Ihe food.
The events have tecome eaS￿r over
lime 88 we leam from any issues and
come up with solutions for the next
community event. In summer we handed
out certrficates to the young people and
used the party as a farewell event lo
Eleanor.
The community events are clearly
popular within the community, and we
are often thanked by the families we
work closely with for putting on these events. At some of these events V+*
have been joined by the Mayor of Mkldlesbrough, Chris Cooke who h
used the time to meet the families we work with.

CHILDREN AND YOUTH ACTNrriES
The Christmas Ihjhts switch on was a success and afterwards we ran our Christmas movrd night for the first timé.
Live it and Get Active donated a large amount of food for this event which helped with the cost and provided more
variety in the food we offer. Our Christmas event was a huge success and th8 young people all enjoyed meeb'ng
Santa arFd receiving a gift.
This yèar we ran our usual summor of trips arKI ran somè addth'onal trips throughout
the year. We went on another trip to Saltburn and provKled the famili&s with a
voucher for fish and chips, as w811 as a frna round of mini gom. The day was a
ma$$ive success, and all the families had a great b'me.
The following week we attended a church in Swalnby. The church had arranged an
activity's day especially for TYCP. The day wa$ run entirely by volunteers who
provKled many craft aclivrties and spent time wrth the kids playing In the stream. We
alw took 8 trip to the nearby church at the lop of the hill and went up the bell tower.
The ¢hurch also provided food a$ well and the entire day was run for free. The
church has aske(1 if we would like lo ￿turn in 2024.
Our next trlp was lo Guisborough wood$ which
went well. The familEs made use of the entire
woods and all the acts'vittes in the woods. The
lamilie8 wefe all provKled wilh lunch bags that Conlained healthy lunches.
Our final summer trip was to the Life Centre. This trip was coslly In terms of ticket
prices and coach costs bul was a lol of fun and educational. All the families were
happy lo spend all day al the mu88um and staff could See them all engaged
throughout the day, Many parents stated that trSps like this, that are further away,
are really appreciated and asked if we could do more of them in th8 future.
We also look the familles on a trip on HallovAen to Coulby Newham fam) for
pumpkln picklng and carving. The day was very fun, and the children all recelved
a pumpkln they could pick and carve themselves. We al80 had lunch provided by
the fami.
This kind of trip was new to our usual offerings but was popular and something
we diKussed running every year in Ihe future.
