A place to hold cultural events and promote youth development, where resources can be shared and we can work towards a common goal to help build a strong and vibrant community. The Ensbury Park Community Centre was built in the 1990,5 when the Ensbury Park Resident Association fought to have a community building in the area. It is a council owned building run by a registered charity, Ensbury Park Community Association, which is made up of a group of dedicated volunteers and a trustee committee, who manage the building on a day to day basis. The centre is located in the heart of Slades Park, a local housing estate, situated between the localities of Kinson and Wallisdown. The Community Centre comprises of one large hall which can be hired for community activities and meetings and can accommodate up to 100 people. The building also has an office, a tearoom where hot drinks can be made and food heated in the microwave and toilets, including a disabled/mother& baby toilet. The large hall is used by regular hirers for several different groups throughout the week, such as a yoga group specifically for the parents of children with disabilities, a craft group and several other groups aimed at both adults and children. We have recently welcomed a regular booking from an ethnic group of mothers and children who have recently moved to the area. They hire the hall and come together as a community to socialise. Regular bookings give the charity a guaranteed regular income, enabling us to meet our utility costs and any other costs we might incur throughout the year. The activities and groups all offer socialisation and, particularly those groups which have an older clientele, reduce isolation and foster friendships for those attending. The activities at the EPCC week by week are Yoga on Monday and Friday mornings, under 8,5 football training Monday morning, Sewing & Craft Group Tuesday mornings, Short Mat Bowls is Wednesday mornings. There is a Circuit Class on Thursday mornings and Karate Saturday afternoons. There is dance group who practice Ballet, Tap, Modern, Acro, Commercial, Contemporary, Musical Theatre and LAMDA sessions during the school terms for ages 4 to 18 years old, Monday to Friday and Saturday mornings. Sunday Mornings we have Guides and Brownies. Sunday evenings we have a non-contact boxing group, which leaves a 4-hour booking for parties and private events in the afternoons. During School holidays we have much more availability for private bookings. During the last eight years we have frequently been unable to accommodate all enquiries for use of the hall and had to refuse possible regular hirers and one-off bookings because of our limited facilities and the hall being used for the regular bookings. Our aim is to continue to offer to everyone an affordable, inclusive and accessible space and increase the number of groups/cla5ses on offer, alongside the regular hirers. We have plans for an extension which will include a new kitchen/tearoom, alongside which, we would like to be able to offer the community a more intimate space where smaller groups of local people could meet and share similar interests and perhaps develop new skills in a warm, safe and comfortable environment. As the planned extension will be smaller than the main hall there are many activities it could be used for to benefit the local community. We would like to explore the possibility of offering a variety of games sessions, like chess, cards etc. and bingo with fish and chips. These activities could take place either during the day or in the evening. The plans also include a new office, allowing the present office space to become a much needed reception/waiting area for parents and visitors, where refreshments would be available. The building of the new kitchen/tearoom will allow the present toilet block to be redesigned, enabling an added cubicle in the lady's toilet and a cupboard for cleaning equipment. The floor in the hall needs resurfacing, something we would like to achieve as soon as possible. We are also hoping to replace the main front doors which would make them more secure and renew the fire exit doors in the main hall for double glazed doors. New doors would not only increase security, but reduce the level of draught presently experienced within the centre/hall and therefore, manage heating usage and costs more efficiently. These changes are included within the general improvement to the EPCC. If we are successful raising the funds needed to build the extension, we intend to explore the possibility of offering a cake and coffee or sou p and roll morning, working in partnership with other local organisations or people/volunteers to provide this service, particularly to the more isolated and/or vulnerable in our community. We would also like to purchase a couple of laptops that would be available for use by members of the commu nity. A trustee, who is an accredited nu meracy champion, would be regularly available to offer support to people who may be experiencing difficulties with things such as understanding budgeting or general numeracy difficulties. We would like to Start the extension in early 2026, providing we have raised the necessary funds. We have been advised that the building works should take approximately 34 months to complete. CHARITABLE OBJECTIVES Our primary responsibility is to manage the Ensbury Park Community Centre on behalf of the residents of Bournemouth. The EPCC is at Slades Park, north of Bournemouth, which is managed by BCP Council Parks Dept. To accommodate trustees at our bi-monthly meetings, we can sign into Microsoft Teams. Our aims are to support an active Community Centre with a variety of community activities each week. Added hiring's to outside groups and individuals are a good contribution to our diversity and health of the Community Centre, which is important for the enjoyment/recreational and community spirit with all age groups using the hall. The charity has Safeguarding and Equality & Diversity policies in place, which are reviewed annually. Milk, coffee, tea and sugar in sachets or cartons are included within the hire of the hall. There is a storeroom where regular hirers can store their equipment. There are notice boards in our area, including one on the wall outside of the EPCC where the activities are advertised. We have a savings account for funding toward the cost of proposed future improvements to the Centre. The Ensbury Park Community Association and Active Dorset - who are responsible for the Slades Park Pavilion - work together to encourage a greater footfall of all ages, ethnicity, gender and those who suffer from a disability, to participate in building a community spirit and encourage ownership of the future developments within Slades Park. Our annual surplus has been saved in a flxed interest account toward future improvements for the Centre.
