Date of Registration: 26.07.16
Financial Year End Date: 31.07.20
Introduction
The Trustees submit their report and financial statement for the Friends of Riverside Park – Chester-le-Street (the CIO) for the financial year ending 31[st] July 2020. The financial statement complies with the Charities Act 2011 and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standards for Small Entities (effective January 2015).
Aims & Objectives
To promote for the benefit of inhabitants of Chester le Street and the surrounding areas, without distinction of sex, sexual orientation, race or of political, religious or other opinions, the provision of facilities for recreation or other leisure time occupation of individuals who have need for such facilities within the context of the Riverside Park, Chester le Street, County Durham.
Review of Achievements & Performance
In its fourth year the CIO has retained a strong focus on the development of a consistent group of volunteers whose work has mainly be directed to the ongoing development and maintenance of the park’s Memorial Garden.
Registered Charity Number 1168443
Given the sustained number of volunteers who now work with our organisation in the park – we have also worked with the ‘Volunteer’s Coordinator’ of Durham County Council to develop and implement robust Health & Safety Risk Assessments in relation to volunteer activities.
The charity has continued to be significantly involved in decisions made by Durham County Council in relation to the planting and maintenance projects within the park, but it is fair to say - like all similar organisations - the Covid-19 pandemic and its restrictions has had a significant limiting impact on the work of our group for both the spring & summer of 2020, beginning with the first ‘national lockdown’ in March 2020.
Constitution
The charity is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (the CIO) and was registered with the Charity Commission on 26[th] July 2016. Its Constitution follows the ‘Association Model’ and allows for membership with voting rights
Governance & Management
The management of the CIO is the responsibility of its Trustees who are elected and coopted in accordance with the constitution – which allows for a maximum of 12 Trustees and a minimum of 3. Four of the trustees will be appointed in the ‘executive’ roles of Chair, ViceChair, Secretary and Treasurer.
As per the Annex of Rules allowed for by the constitution, the CIO trustees will meet on a minimum of 4 occasions per year and there will be a minimum of 4 General Meetings per year convened for Members.
In accordance with the constitution, all trustees will stand down at the Annual General Meeting and may seek re-election.
Financial Review
The CIO is presently banks with the Chester le Street branch of Santander using a ‘Treasurer’s Current Account’.
During this financial year funds were raised via donations from the Durham Cricket Foundation (£250) & Durham County Councillor Beaty Bainbridge (£500) – the latter of which is ‘restricted’ and designated for the future purchase of plants / signage for the park’s Memory Garden.
The CIO has no assets, no depreciation, no investments, no debtors, no creditors, no liabilities and a cash balance of £760, arising from the above donations and previous ‘member’s subscriptions’.
Registered Charity Number 1168443
As a consequence of the above information accounts will be filed using the Charity Commission’s ‘Receipts & Payments’ template.
Public Benefit Statement
In exercising their powers and duties the Trustees have complied with their duty to have due regard to the guidance on ‘public benefit’ published by the Charity Commission for England and Wales.
