Coventry Migrant Women’s Houses

Accounts and Annual Report
2025
The house makes a difference to me because being homeless, especially as a woman, is so difficult. You can’t just go to the street. The house helps reduce this stress of homelessness.
Without it I could not even help to volunteer because I would not have any energy even for anything. It has helped me even with my case because when you don’t know where you will sleep you can’t even do anything. You forget everything.
In the future when I get my papers I would like to help other people going through the same situation. I want to work to help myself, and I want to give my time to help the community. If I can’t help other people I don’t even know who I would be.
House Resident
I want to express my sincere gratitude for giving me a roof over my head whilst living under homelessness. Your generosity and thoughtfulness have truly made a difference in my life.. Your willingness to go above and beyond to help me during living rough without shelter means more to me than words can express.
House Resident
Coventry Migrant Women’s Houses (CMWH) Charitable Incorporated Organisation was established in 2014 as a partnership between Spare Room for Forced Migrants and local migrant support organisations in Coventry and the West Midlands, including Coventry Refugee and Migrant Centre, Coventry Night Shelter, Coventry Quakers and Baobab Women’s Project, maintaining and improving the house and the quality of life of residents.
Our 4 bedroom property in North East Coventry is used to accommodate and support forced migrant women with no recourse to public funds.
In 2024-2025 we supported 6 women from 5 different countries.
Women staying with us receive an allowance for essential living expenses, a monthly bus pass and support to move their case forward and take steps to improve their situation in the long term. This is provided in a time-limited licence to balance the time it can take to make meaningful changes with the need to offer other women the chance for support and a ‘breathing space’.
It has been a difficult year with the Government’s Rwanda plan and the Far-Right Riots, and we are particularly feeling the continuing effect of the challenges to accessing legal aid and advice, making it increasingly difficult for women to access the support they need to resolve their legal cases. We are grateful to Baobab Womens Project and for continuing to support the women staying with us and in the wider community in increasingly difficult times.
In the next year we hope to continue supporting migrant women experiencing destitution, improving the energy efficiency of the building and expanding the capacity of the Trustee group.
Trustees served during the year: Beth Ash Carol Rank William Waddilove Erika Wright
