The Chartvs objectives are to advance a Bible based Christian falth- to the glory of God and honour
of Jesus Christ for the benefft of the Christadelphian community and members of the publlc.
partlcularly in the Newbury area.
The Charivs main activit*s. undertaken forthe public benefiL in pursult of these objects are:
Holdirvd meetlngs for worship. prayer and Bible teaching.
Preaching through personal engagement and by invrtation to meetings.
Provision of Sunday School, a youth club and other occasional artNities.
Periodic collection for charitable needs. including disaster relief.
Servin& to the extent feasible, attendees pastoral and welfare need5.
The fowoin8 activities promote a fuller understanding of the human ¢ODditK>n, relatlve to the
eternal things of God, and serve members of the publk with direction, balance and purpose In
todavs complex world.
In the exerctse of their powers and duties in connettion wtth the Charlvs objertives, the trustee5
have reviewed and had regard to the Charlty Commlssion's guidance on public benefit as kst
updated Sn September 2013.
The profile of our church has chan8ed ￿nce the l*8innln8 of the year wlth many members moving
away from the area and some Joinlng other Chrirtadelphian ecclesias. Thls Is clearly seen In
attendance at the hall on Sunday mornlngs where we have far fewer Farsl speakers present.
However, Newbury church remalns a Spiritual and prattical support to many brothers and sisters
near and far.
Actlvltles In 2023
Newbury Chrlstadelphlan Ecclesla holds ￿gUlar and ad hoc meetln8s l)oth at the hall and onllne. On
Sundays, we re8ularly hold two se￿1￿$ in the hall. One is our regular Breaking of Bread meetin8 Sn
which we remember the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. The other FS our Bible Tlme.
where we provlde Introdurtions to Bible topics mainly aimed at those visiting or in the earfy stages of
leamlng about the Bible. These meetings are open to all and we have welcomed a number of visitors.
Throu8hout the year. we have run on80ing Introductory 22 lesson courses on4ine as well as several
P￿paratIon for Baptism sessions, indudl￿a one course in French for contscts in 8elgium. We also
have a mFd-week Bible discussion group that is a ￿ular feature of our progrdmme. The Ladles
Tuesday Group meets at the hall once a month arKI oTrllne every week. There are also ad hoc meetings
such as the Fellowship Day held in September.
We regularty revlew our serv1￿$ to ensure they continue to meet the needs of our members. For
example, have looked at the transition once the Sunday School ￿￿rnber5 have left the servKe, to help
members get into the right'spiritual zone.. We have experimented with changes oftimes with Sunday
Services too. to see rf It helped more brother5 and sisters attend and more work continues wlth
reviewing the tlmes and forrnats of our services. We continue to invest tlme and money ensuring our
technical set-up works for both Sn-person and online 5erwces. Translation has been an ongoing point
of discussion as we do our best to find a way of making our servKes accessible to all without losing
the flow and we have moved to a mainly'on-screen, translation servi￿.

We have had a numberof changes to our membership overthe yearto December2023 and very many
re8ular visitors to our ser¥los - both online around the UK and in person at our holl. We wltnessed
and celebrated 8 baptlsms in the course of 2023 and wekomed 3 new members from other
Christadelphian ecclesias. We also tranSfer￿d 3 members to other ecclesias with our blessing. At the
end of 2023. our membership numbered 96 ￿Ople but nearly halfof these members are not local.
Preathln8
Our regular 8lble Time on Sundays is a cornerstone of our p￿aChIng artlvities and has been well
attended by visitors over the year- with many of these vlsttor5 N)ining our membership as time went
on. There are also re8ular cla55es online {usualfy wlth Farsl translation) that help people learn about
the Gospel.
Invltatlons to our attNities are mainly by word of mouth. Those that attend already are keen to brln8
new friends along. We have also had some people drop in from the local a￿3 thanks to our notice
boards outslde. From time to time, we produce paper/ email invitations forour members to hand out
- such as to Invite people to our Christmas ser¥ice.
Youth
We are pr￿leged to have the ￿gUlar company of several children at our services and thelr full
partlcipation in our Sunday School programme. At the start of the year, we had 11 children, spllt
across three classes. We were sorry to105e the company of 3 children over the course of the year,
due to moves outslde the area.
We contlnued to run three classes throughout the year together with a smatterin8 of 'whole sunday
school, 5esslons where comblne all the Cla￿e5 in one group. Durln8 the flrst half of the year, these
sessions were linked to seasonal themes le.8. New Year. Lentl- For the second half of the year and as
our projert during the summer holidays. we followed the theme of 'Biblical Timeline, and attempted
to help the children understand how events in the Bible fit together across the ages and what
happened when- with a lar8e visual ald runnin8 across the Sunday school rooml
The whole church comes tO8ether to celebrate the chIld￿n twice a ￿ar when we have the Sunday
School party (January) and the Sunday School Outing and Prize Giving lJunelJulyl.
The older children have been able to ioln in with Thames Valley Youth Group over the course of the
year. This meets every other week on either a Friday evening or Saturday afternoon wlth an actlvlty
and then a Blble session - we have been investi8atin8 the books of the Bible. Newbury organi5ed
paddleboarding in June and ice skatlng in December. Four of our older children attended the Junior
CYC Camp in Corfe Castle in the summer arKI the reuntonl meet up event leading up to it.
Our Sunday School children atso benefft from the ￿￿lar'FaMi￿ servi￿$ on Sundays at 11:45am.
All of those involved In teathing our Youth are DBS checked and we have secure Safeguarding policies
procedures in place.

Charltsble Donatlons
We are pleased to support the work of NHS Berkshire Mentsl Health by regularly allowing them to use
our hall for meetings.
We match-funded a memberf5 mince ple fvnd-raistng even( contributlng £4￿ towards the Dolphln
& Lion children's inpatient wards at Royal Berkshlre Hospital.
Any surplus from our Monthly Lunch Club is donated to a chosen charity. Thls year £40.45 was
donated to CARA Ichristadelphian Aid for Refu8ees and Asylum seekers) and £40.44 to the Newbury
foodban
We supported è number of charltle5 financialty over the year. Amoiigst these were 8 Chrfstadelphian
charlties whlch do a ran8e of KtTrvities frorn Preachin8 to Financial Ald to projects In developing
countries. Disaster relief funds were channelled throu8h the Dlsasters Emergency Committee and the
Christsdelphlan SamarStan Fund.
Pastoral and Wolfare
We have a Wehre Committee that meets bl-monthlyto considerthe Welfa￿ arKI needs ofour church
family. Thls has resulted practKal and financlal help bein8 offered in addition to prayers and splrltual
encouragement. Thls year we have seen our baptSsed numbers grow but also, in the lètter half of the
year. a lot of our Iranian members away. We continue to support the Iranlan ￿fu8ee
community with advice and practlcal help Whe￿ necessary as many of them 8ain their leave to remaln
and stsrt the process of finding employment and accommodatron.
Lunch club re-started in the sprln8 on the thlrd Thursday of each month and have shared some lovely
meals together wlth up to 13 people attendi￿& each month. Thls ts a great way to reach out to people
who may not attend other servkes.
We have a large number of Iranlan members who live remotely from Newbury. Over the year we have
sent varlous care packages includin8 hand wrttten cards. puzzle books and a photo of the fellowship
weekend. These have been well received. Christmas packages V￿re arranged for older members in
December. These wefe 8fven at the Ladies Tuesday Group Festpie Meal and were appreciated by all.
The Sunday School made a Nativty Plcture and we sent a prlnt of it to all of ihe ecclesia.
Once a month, we joln togetherfor a brlng and share lunch at the hall. to which all are invlted. There
are other opportunttles for pastoral support in the way of socials- be that meeting up in a park. goin8
for a walk or celebratlng birthdays together.
Every Sunday have a welfare report glvlng us news and updates on our members and people we
may know. This is followed by a welfare prayer and is an opportunity for anyone to ask for prayers
they need. From time to time, we send cards to people to give them comfort or encouragement.

quickly and efficlently at tlmes of crisis overseas.
• The Christadelphian Bible Mission ICBMI. which supports preachlng worldwlde and provides
welfare to churches and indlviduals.
The Christadelphian Auxiliary Lerturin8 Service {CALS), whSch supports preachlng in the UK.
The Christadelphlan Benevolent Fund ICBFI, which provides support for members of
Chrlstadelphlan churches who ?re in need.
Christadelphian Care Homes (CCH). whith provides a network of Ca￿ to those in need of
residential, nurslng, dementia or resptte care.
The Chrlstodelphlan Sunday School Union ICSSU), whkh provides teachln8 resources for
children.
Chr5stadelphian Meal-a-Day. whrch provides worldwkle 'down-to*arth' support for
vulnerable children, the provI￿on of clean water, agrlcultural skllls. bas1¢ health care and
education and a meal a dav.
The Christadelphian Samaritsn Fund, which funds extemal charltles supportlng rellef from
natural disaster and war.
The Shunem Home. which provides shelter, educatlon and care for some of the most
vulnerable in Hyderabad, India.
Christadelphian Ald for Refvgees and Asylum Seekers (CARA}. whS¢h alms to provlde rellef
for asylum seeker5 In our churches in the UK.

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the charity (“The Trust”) for the year ended 31 December 2023. 

## **Responsibility and basis of report** 

As the charity trustees of the Trust, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“The Act”). 

I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act. In carrying out my examination, I have followed the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act. 

## **Independent examiner’s statement** 

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination that gives me cause to believe that, in any material respect: 

- Accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Act or 

- The accounts do not accord with the accounting records 

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
