Friends of Mossbrook School Charity, report of the trustees for year ending 31[st] August 2025
We present our accounts and a report summarising the activities carried out during the academic year 2024-2025; these accounts have been subject to an Independent Examination.
The Friends of Mossbrook School PTFA charity has existed since 2016 to support the work of Mossbrook Special Primary School, Sheffield, and is dedicated to supporting, promoting and enriching the learning experiences of all children at the school. We operate under a constitution modelled by the Parentkind organisation, which supports the running of school PTAs and PTFAs. We are insured for our activities via the same organisation.
At Mossbrook, we recognise and celebrate the fact that our children are unique individuals who require a bespoke approach to their learning. Children who feel happy, safe and respected are far more likely to learn and make progress. We work hard to reduce their barriers to learning, giving them the best chance to learn. Communication is a priority and we aim to ensure that our children have an appropriate way of letting others know what they need and want. We place our pupils at the centre of all the decisions we make, accepting them and valuing them for all that they are.
To achieve our stated aims, Friends of Mossbrook School carries out a variety of fundraising activities. The specific activities which have provided our income in 24-25 are detailed on the Treasurer’s comprehensive report, prepared by Alli Burgin, with oversight from our accountants, MGRW Sheffield. Some example activities are as follows:

We have held fundraising events both within school and at local venues (e.g. raffles, quizzes, fairs and bake sales);

We have applied for grants from larger funding bodies such as Tesco Groundworks;

We have encouraged our school community to take part in sponsored events (such as The Big Read) on our behalf;

We regularly approach the community champions at local businesses and organisations to support us by giving monetary or ‘in kind’ donations (for example, the local Rotary Club supplies a selection box of chocolate treats for each child at Christmas);

Volunteers from local businesses and organisations (including Waitrose and Gripple) have been invited to visit the school on our volunteer days, for example to work on our sensory garden or repaint our classrooms.
We support the children’s learning by providing enrichment opportunities at the school. Expenditure is detailed in the Treasurer’s Report, but projects funded in the year 24-25 have included:

The purchase of walking reins to facilitate trips out of school for children whose personal risk assessment abilities are still developing;

Supplying outdoor furniture in the playgrounds so children can have somewhere to rest and regulate, as well as continue their learning activities outdoors;

Sourcing playground equipment, bikes, helmets, toys, etc. to help the children develop their gross motor skills and promote social behaviour;

Commissioning a graffiti artist to design and paint murals on our playground and swimming pool walls to create a bright, inviting space for the children;

Purchasing swim pants to enable all children to access our school pool.
The Trustees would like to thank the committee for their tireless efforts in helping to promote and improve our school. We are also very appreciative of the hard work done by our Treasurer, Alli Burgin, in keeping our records and preparing the financial report.
