## **REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE**

The Trustees submit their report and financial statements for the year ended 30 September 2020. The names of those who served as Trustees and who served on the Management Committee during the year are given on page 1.

## **Structure, governance and management**

The Voices of London Festival from 1 October 2015 was an unincorporated association, and was reconstituted as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (“CIO”), limited by guarantee, on 8 July 2016, constituted in accordance with its Governing Document, the Foundation Model Constitution. Each of the trustees as a member has undertaken to contribute an amount not exceeding £1 towards the assets of the company in the event of the same being wound up and the assets being insufficient to cover its liabilities.

The CIO is overseen by a committee of up to ten trustees, with day-to-day management delegated to the Management Committee. The trustees are volunteers and are recruited with appropriate skills in order to support the CIO’s objectives and aims. The trustees’ appointment is made by a resolution of a properly convened meeting of the trustees. The initial term of service for a trustee is three years.

## **Objectives and activities**

The CIO is established to advance, improve, develop and maintain public education in, and appreciation of, the art and science of music in all its aspects and by any means the trustees see fit, including through the presentation of public concerts and recitals.

The CIO publicises its activities through its website www.voicesoflondonfestival.com

## **Achievements and Performances**

During summer 2019 it was decided to move the Festival from the summer to the spring, in order to maximise attendance at the Festival which has often been reduced due to competing other events in the summer.

A full program of events was planned for March 2020. However, in light of the Covid-19 pandemic, the decision was taken to postpone the Festival in March 2020. No material financial expenses were incurred during the year. As the CIO’s activities predominantly involve live public concerts and recitals, and due to the number of other online musical events occurring, the CIO has not used its reserves to undertake online musical activities but has maintained its reserves and benefited from grants of £1,720 in order to ensure the ability to put on a Festival as soon as possible (hopefully March 2022).

In light of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the March 2021 Festival has also been postponed. We hope to be able to run the Festival again in March 2022 in order to best fulfil our charitable objectives.

Total number of participants and audience in 2020 was therefore 0 (2019: 700; 2018: 830)

The Trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit.

## **Financial review**

The financial result for the year was a surplus of £1,838 (2019: deficit of £1,284; 2018: surplus of £3,935). As at 30 September 2020 the CIO had bank deposits totalling £4,502 (2019: £2,783; 2018: £299). The CIO intends eventually to maintain a general reserve at the level of at least half a year’s expenditure as soon as possible. None of the general reserves at 30 September 2020 are restricted.

## **Statement of Compliance**

This Report has been prepared on an accruals basis in accordance with The Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 and the Statement of Recommended Practice for Charities.

There is no requirement to have the accounts independently examined or audited as the Gross Income for the charity in this year was under £25,000.

This Report was approved by the Trustees on [] July 2020.
