Battle Arts and Music Festival Trustees Report (continued) Year to 30th April 2023
Following two long years of uncertainty the Festival could only offer limited virtual offerings it was wonderful that we were able to stage a full Festival. This was warmly welcomed by our audience who were glad that the Covid restrictions were over and enjoyed the chance to socialise and enjoy world class events.
For the first time we staged jazz events as well as theatre, comedy dance and classical music and visual arts. All these events were well attended and very useful information was ordained from the audience about the future of the Festival and we hope to include these recommendations in future years.
Many of the events we staged were free or offered at a substantially reduced rate and this enabled the Festival to be as inclusive as we can possibly be. We opened the Festival with a free Community day that was staged at Battle Abbey. We also offered free Indian and Bollywood workshops and continued with our educational projects at local schools. These educational projects are warmly welcomed by teachers and support staff. We are delighted that the inclusion of arts has led in many cases to an increased standard to concentration by the students and this has been followed by a love of the arts in general.
The Festival Committee and Trustees were saddened by the death of a founder member of the Festival Robert Emeleus and several tributes were made in his memory during the Festival.
The Committee and Trustees have been delighted with the 2022 Festival and the feedback we have received and look forward to staging a bigger and more inclusive Festival in 2023.
