Daventry and District Sports Trust Report of the Trustees Forthe year ended 30 April 2025 The Trustees have the pleasure in presenting their report and the financial statements for the charityforthe year ended 30 April 2025. The Trustees have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and the Republic of Ireland {FRS 102} {effective 1 January 2019). Chair's report Significant achievements The Trustees have met on a regular monthly basis to consider the financial position of the Trust and to deal with the management issues which have arisen during the financial year. There ha8 been one change in Trustees during the year with the appointment of Martin Ross as an additional Trustee. The facilities on the site currently comprise 3 Rugby Pitches, 5 Squash Courts, an outdoor Bowling Green, 8 400m Athletics track together with field sports areas, field Archery targets, Changing rooms and two licensed Clubhouses. The Table Tennis Club makes use of two of the Squash Courts on 8 weekly basis for its club purposes. The condition of the car park continues to give concern to the Trustees. Further temporary remedialworks have been carried out on occasion bywest Northamptonshire Council, but much to the frustration of the Trustees, the member clubs and the visiting members of the public usingthe f8cilities, there continues to be no progress made between the Council and its contractors in the dispute as to who was responsible for the defects in the car park's construction. The Council has however now 8greed to undertake core sampling in various locations on the car park to ascertain if the substructure m8ter18ls were in 8ccordanc8 With the contractual specification. The deteriorating state of the car park is of particular concern to Reach for Health, whos8 premises are situated on the site and uses the car park not only for parking, but also 8S Itg only means of access to its premises. Many of its members and visitors suffer from physical difficulties and require wheelchair access. The Trustees have continued to press the Council for a permanent solution given th8 concerns on safety issues. The premises have been used duringthe yearfor private functions and Davfest 24 (a music festival held in July) was very successful and the organiser reported it Was the best attended festival that had been held and that they intend to return with a bigger festival in July 2025. The two club houses continue to provide excellent venues for social activities for local people, hosting many community activities and the member clubs also provide opportunities for the local people to volunteer to assist with and be involved in sporting activities in Daventry. The Sports club using the facilities have continued to be in good health and there is in excess of 600 members in total from the member clubs who use the facilities on a regular basis, of whom approximately 250 arejuniors and membership numbers have been on the increase generally. The number of users of the facility is boosted by visiting teams, hirerlusers of the Athletic track and third-party users of the two Clubhouse facilities for Social activities. The Squash Club continues to grow its membership numbers and has over 200 members, all playing the sport regularly. The club was able to field teams in each of the four county Leagues winningthe First and Fourth Divisions. The club hosted the county championships and a major doubles competition, predominately because it is the onlyfacilitywithin 40 miles which boasts five courts.
Daventry and District Sports Trust Report of the Trustees Continued Forthe year ended 30 April 2025 Plans for the next 12 months include an upgrade of the changing facilities to attract more women players ano a light refurbishment of the courts to keep them in great condition. It has been another successful season for the Rugby Club: The firstxvwon the Lewis Shield and remains in Level 6, Regional2 League. nd The 2 team won their league and the Clonmell Cup. The third XV also won their league. The Club continues to put out a 4XV showing depth 8t the Club. The Colts won their League with many also stepping up to senior rugby this season. representing 1XV, 2XV and 3XV. The Club has had players representing the East Midlands plus 2 Academy players joining Coventry RFC having signed fortheir seniorAcademy. The12dies team continues to growwith 2 teams, a touch team and 8 15 8 side contact team. With 2025 being a home World Cup for the ladies, game there is an opportunityto grow next season. An U17 girls. team played at a recent mini tournament. A girlsjuniortraining has been established with a view to launching U12 and U14's sides from September. Mini & Junior sections have 169 players. An U15 side has been established this season. filing a gap as a result of teams not being able to play during the Covid lockdowns. Off the playing side, the Club has upgraded the irrigation system on the main pitch and new equipment has been purchased through grants received, and rese8ding of both the main pitch and top pitch has been undertaken. Daventry Athletics Club has approximately 120 members; the vast majority being under 16 years old. Track and Field Team performances h8V@ been: 3, in the Youth Development League- Lower Age Group Midland NE Division 1, 4 in the Heart of England League Division 3: 8, in the Midland League Division 3 SE. Individual performances have been: Northants Championship- 30 medals including 15 golds: 3 athletes selected to represent Northants Schools: One British Universities gold medallist. Cross Country Northants championships-7 medals including 2 golds: 6 athletes selected to represent Northants AA; 8 athletes selected to represent Northants Schools; one bronze medallist at the Midland Championships. The Club hosted the following events.. 1 x Heart of England League match for athletes 9-16 years old: 1 x Chairman's Cup for athletes 8-12 years old and Northants County mile. 2 x Secondary Schools events for schools in the old South Northants area; 2x Primary Schools events- Daventry area and amp; regional final. The Table Tennis CLub has had a moderate season in comparison to the previous years. but the B Team shone nd through. The club ran 6 teams, one in Daventry and District league where they finished a creditable 2 to West Haddon Smasher's, losing out by a sm811 margin of 6 points (302-296). The five other teams played in the th Towcester and District league. The A Team finished 4 in Division One with the other four teams split into th divisions two Blue and Red Leagues. The B team romped home winningthe Red league and won the playoffs against the Blue league winner. thus winning promotion to Division One. The B Team topped off the season by also winningthe Handicap Cup final.
Daventry and District Sports Trust Report of the Trustees Continued For the year ended 30 April 2025 Over the past yearthe Archery Club carried out several beginner courses and has been able to get a 60% retention in new memberships resulting in circa 58 members: rangingfrom 8 to 70+ years old. The Archery Club is pleased to say it has always been 8n inclusive club and has many archers with various physical and neuro diversity issues who take part in the sport. This is a great achievement in that the archers and the members are supportive of each other. Many of the club archers have been taking part in local and national shoots and are currently doing extremelywell. 3 archers are in the top 10 nationally, and 8 archers are in the County Squad within their relevant sections. This coming yearthe Club is hoping to get a few more coaches so it C8n look to carry out more beginners, courses and grow the club and coach guide the new members to achieve their g0818. Recently the Club held its trophy shoot in memory of one of its archers and managed to raise £400 for two charities which were close to his heart. The Bowls Club this year has seen an increase in membership, which is good news. It continues to support the Daventry Drama Group and West Northamptonshire Dementia Group who use its function room. Its Ladies team however struggled with a shortage of Ladies. The Men's team was promoted to Division 3. Duringthe year, the Trust has continued its excellent relationship with Reach for He81th l a charity operating from premises on the site as a physical and mental health rehabilitation and recuperation centre) and has a good working relationship and synergy with Reach for Health. Performance The Trust's purpose is to provide the environment, facilities and support in which each of its member clubs and Gommunity activities can flourish. The clubs which do flourish, are those with strong junior sections, especially so when this strength can be carried through into the adultteams. To achieve its objectives the Trust aims to: Provide affordable sports facilities, fitness and leisure opportunities for local people of all ages and abilities. Encourage greater participation in sport. Provide opportunities for local, county, regional and national events to enable people to participate in and view competitive and quality sporting events. Create a combined, shared facility and environment to benefit each of the member clubs which would not be possible in isolation. Provide a venue for local groups and organisations to use. Provide opportunities for social activities both associated with sport and non-sports participants. Promote opportunities for community volunteers. Ensure that the Trust's activities have regard tor the environment and that it operates sustainably. The Trustees believe that during the financialyear 2024125, they have successfully progressed with their aims and objectives, and the Trustees lookforward to building on the achievements and successes of the current year during 2025/26, with the intention of extending and improvingthe facilities on offer to the community for both social and sportingwelfare.
